Problematic Women

Problematic Women

The Daily Signal

Conservative women are “Problematic Women.” We are proud to be pro-life, pro-family, and pro-traditional American values. Because we don’t fit the left’s version of what a feminist should be, we have been labeled PROBLEM and we have embraced the title.

We also discuss:— Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar announced a $1 Trillion plan this week to wipe out every dollar of student loan debt in the United States. Sterilization is not something you often hear about women choosing, but that may be changing.

The recent piece “First Comes Love. Then Comes Sterilization.” by Suzy Weiss on the "Common Sense With Bari Weiss" Substack tells the story of four women who have been, or plan to be, sterilized. For reasons including past trauma or not wanting a child to experience suffering, the women in the article have not only decided to not have kids, but want to ensure that they can’t have kids.

Suzy Weiss reports this phenomenon is taking place while birth rates continue to fall across America. A record number of 25 states reported more deaths than births in 2020, according to a study by the University of New Hampshire.

Why are so few women choosing to have children and what are the implications of that choice? We seek to answer these questions on this edition of the “Problematic Women” podcast.

Also on today’s show, we discuss remarks by former President Barack Obama claiming parents' concerns over what is happening in schools is “fake outrage.” Plus, Twitter has suspended Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., for tweeting that Rachel Levine is a man. And as always, we’ll be crowning our "Problematic Woman of the Week."

The policies coming out of Washington, D.C. have the potential to affect Americans who have not even been born yet, whether for good or bad.

The latest National Report Card from the National Assessment of Educational Progress pains an abysmal picture of education across the U.S.

The report card is published every two years and assesses the average reading and math scores for fourth and eighth graders. The report showed significant declines for students when it was published in 2022, but the decline was somewhat expected in the wake of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. But the assessment completed in 2024 and published Wednesday show little to no improvement for student’s math and reading proficiency.

In 2024, 39% percent of fourth grade students performed at or above the proficient math level that is set by the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This is 3% higher compared to 2022, but 2 percentage points lower than in 2019.

Eighth grade math scores are at 28% proficiency, which is about the same as 2022 scores, but eight points lower compared to 2019.

Reading scores showed an even greater decline than math.

In 2024, 31% of fourth grade students performed at or above the proficient level on the reading assessment. This is a 2 percentage point decline compared to 2022 and 4 percentage points lower than 2019, according to the report card.

And 30% of eighth grade students performed at or above the proficient level in 2024, which was not significantly different from 2022, but lower compared to 2019.

But not all the news coming out of the government is negative for our kids right now. Take the confirmation hearing of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Kennedy, who President Donald Trump has tapped to head the Department of Health and Human Services, testified before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday. He argued that the U.S. healthcare and food system needs to do a better job of keeping American’s healthy, and this can begin by taking practical steps to remove processed foods from school lunch programs.

Or take the executive order Trump signed Tuesday to ban the use of federal dollars to fund or support irreversible transgender medical interventions for children.

On this week’s edition of "Problematic Women," Madison Marino Doan, co-author of "Slacking: A Guide to Ivy League Miseducation," joins the show as we breakdown the ways the biggest pieces of news coming out of Washington could affect the next generation for years to come.

Problematic Women - What’s Really Happening at the Southern Border?
play

04/14/22 • 42 min

On his first day in office in January 2021, President Joe Biden ended many of his predecessor's policies to manage illegal immigration at America’s southern border. Biden brought a halt to former President Donald Trump's construction of the border wall, and tens of thousands of migrants began crossing the border illegally.

Since October, more than 940,000 migrants have been caught at the border, the Border Patrol reports.

Gloria Taylor, communications manager for national security and foreign policy issues at The Heritage Foundation, traveled last week to McAllen, Texas, to see for herself what is happening there.

Taylor joins this episode of the “Problematic Women” podcast to discuss what she learned from Border Patrol agents and from ranchers who live on the border and face the challenges of surging illegal immigration every day.

Also on today’s show, we discuss why some district attorneys no longer prosecute entire categories of crime. Plus, we take time to remember the significance of Easter. And as always, we’ll crown our Problematic Woman of the Week.

March is Women’s History Month, but some leftist influencers are encouraging women to use the month to express “feminine rage.” And some of this “rage” was on full display recently as many female Democrats refused to stand or clap during President Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress. The leftist leaders sat in pink to recognize women, even though they had just voted to block a bill that would protect women’s sports. A few female Democrats took this notion of “rage” it a step further, issuing a cringy “choose your fighter” video on TikTok.

On this week’s edition of “Problematic Women,” Janae Stracke, vice president of outreach and advocacy at The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action for America, joins the show to discuss the effect of Democrats recent actions on women, and the ongoing budget fight on Capitol Hill.

Also on today’s show, we catch up on the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni drama and discuss the likely TRUE story behind the fiasco.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, states like Florida have received a lot of criticism from the political left for not requiring endless masking or imposing stringent lockdowns. Yet Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says, “If I had a dollar for every lockdown politician who decided to escape to Florida over the last two years, I’d be a pretty doggone wealthy man.”

DeSantis' remarks were made in response to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent trip to Florida over the Christmas holiday. National Review published photos of the Democrat congresswoman from New York sitting outside enjoying lunch with her boyfriend in Miami Beach, Florida.

Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes shared the photo on Twitter, writing, “If Leftists like AOC actually thought mandates and masking worked, they wouldn’t be frolicking in free FL.” He also took a jab at her boyfriend’s shoe choice, calling his sandals “hideous.”

How did the congresswoman respond?

“If Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet,” she tweeted, adding, “Ya creepy weirdos.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s response left many scratching their heads.

A few days later, Ocasio-Cortez was again seen maskless at a drag bar in Miami.

Florida's Conservative Voice founder Brendon Leslie reported the incident, tweeting, "For those of you with zero sense of humor: the whole point of this post is to expose hypocrisy. We don’t actually care she’s maskless. We care she fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here.”

On this week’s edition of the “Problematic Women” podcast, we discuss Ocasio-Cortez’s actions and the troubling COVID-19 policies being promoted by the left.

Also on today’s show, we discuss the media’s reporting of Sen. Ted Cruz’s daughter and give a brief update on the new host of "The Bachelor." And as always, we crown our “Problematic Woman of the Week.”

Problematic Women - Diamond and Silk Discuss Black Lives Matter
play

09/10/20 • 50 min

Diamond and Silk gained national attention in 2016, when they began to speak out about the hypocrisy of the progressive left. Their new book—“Uprising: Who the Hell Said You Can't Ditch and Switch?”—explains why the African American sisters walked away from the left.

Diamond and Silk (aka Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson) join the "Problematic Women" podcast to discuss racial tensions in America, the agenda of Black Lives Matter, civics education, and their book.

We also break down the new Disney movie “Mulan” and controversy over Disney using the film's end credits to offer "special thanks" to Chinese institutions directly linked to carrying out human rights abuses in China. Some scenes in the film were shot in Xinjiang, China, where Uighurs, a Muslim minority, are being persecuted.

Plus, we talk with journalist Alessandra Bocchi, the winner of the 2020 Joseph Rago Memorial Fellowship for Excellence in Journalism, a program of The Fund for American Studies. And as always, we’ll be crowning our "Problematic Woman of the Week."

A video surfaced recently of Chinese officials herding a large group of blindfolded Uighur people onto trains in northern China.

The aerial footage is reported to have been taken last year, but the details surrounding the incident are unknown. What is increasingly clear, however, is that China is carrying out horrific human rights abuses against Uighurs, a predominantly Muslim Turkic-speaking minority residing in China's Xinjiang region.

Olivia Enos, The Heritage Foundation’s senior policy analyst for the Asian Studies Center, joins “Problematic Women” to explain what we do know about these human rights abuses and what action America is taking in response.

Also on today’s show, we discuss Planned Parenthood finally admitting that its founder, Margaret Sanger, was a racist. Plus, we break down the Netflix documentary “Athlete A” and how USA Gymnastics tried to hide the sexual abuse by Dr. Larry Nassar. And as always, we’ll be crowning our problematic woman of the week.

“Well, I didn't see that coming” has been a somewhat common refrain on Capitol Hill this week as President-elect Donald Trump announces his picks to lead his forthcoming administration.

Trump has built his brand on breaking the mold of politics and continues the trend with his Cabinet appointments.

Not every choice has been a surprise. Susie Wiles has long been on Trump’s short list to be his chief of staff, given her years of loyalty to the president and her success in managing Trump’s reelection campaign. Wiles will make history as the first female chief of a president's staff.

And Tom Homan’s experience in Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, coupled with his positive relationship with Trump, made him an obvious choice for “border czar.”

But some of Trump’s picks were unexpected, though not necessarily in a bad way.

On this week's edition of "Problematic Women," Hannah-Claire Brimelow joins the show to discuss Trump's Cabinet picks and why some are so surprising. We also fact-check some recent abortion claims.
