Episode 77: Making an impact with Fleurie Forbes-Martin
Do More Good podcast
07/06/21 • 52 min
Episode 77 features Fleurie, the campaigner, Business Growth Director, BIMA100 winner, Bournemouth Uni 30 under 30, XTinction Rebellion member but not, it seems, the owner of a watch.
We start with James making the case to ban ice skating and Kenneth admitting to some overzealous celebrating on the sidelines. Then there's how veganism sparked curiosity and a passion, then the confidence to pursue a path towards making an impact. We talk about the boring charity sector, how we're all getting woke and the skill of the master networkers.
From there we're on to the ultimate VIP Club for purposeful brands, acquiring B-Corp status and the benefits it brings. There are tips on crafting an inner circle of organisers, what needs to change, including the war with the fridge before finally, James reveals the new merchandise line.

Spotlight Episode 12: Participatory grant giving with Natasha and Markella
Do More Good podcast
06/25/21 • 29 min
James and Kenneth are struggling to say Participatory Giving in our latest Spotlight episode. We’re joined by Natasha and Markella, who have no such problem as they describe Camden Giving’s mission to end local poverty and inequality in Camden. They tell us how volunteering, participatory funding, resident decision-making and employment opportunities are key in creating equality, and how they’ve leant that the way these things are delivered is key.

Episode 76: The calling of public service with Catherine Anderson, Executive Director of the London Marathon Charitable Trust
Do More Good podcast
06/22/21 • 51 min
We like to delve into careers at the Do More Good podcast and this one is packed. From a childhood on the road to encouraging more women into politics, years spent in the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan community and working at the Jo Cox Foundation. Catherine Anderson is the Executive Director of the London Marathon Charitable Trust and joins us with her story.
We start with the revelation that James can’t make a tea, Kenneth loves diving in at the deep end and the calling of public service. Catherine describes her nomadic childhood and the skills it gave her. We talk leadership training, the lack of any and why it’s important to try.
Catherine tells us about breaking down the barriers of other’s privilege, whilst also recognising your own. She encourages us to thank our MPs, realise that nothing is permanent and describes how she always follows her heart - especially when you simply have to visit a literary festival in south-east Asia because it’s the right thing to do.
Edit: We’re delighted to report that since recording Catherine has now broken the 25 minute barrier.

Episode 75: Managing Celebrity Talent and Influencers with Tom Lemons
Do More Good podcast
06/09/21 • 52 min
We’ve rolled out the red carpet for Tom Lemons this week, the head of the Talent & Influencer team at the NSPCC, responsible for winning and managing award winning high profile partnerships for the charity.
Tom tells us how a stint working at the Big Issue Magazine, helping to save it from closure, sparked a passion for the third sector and led to his move to (according to Kenneth) the ‘most glamorous role in charity’. He now rubs shoulders with the likes of Geri Horner and Wayne Rooney, not to mention opening pop up shops for Harrods.
We discuss the key skills required, why you don’t need a little black book and the importance of relationships. We have terrible chat up lines, 90s TV queens and how Kenneth became best mates with Wesley Snipes. There’s the similarities with corporate partnerships, dealing with agents and celebrity top trumps, plus learning the marketing mix, the move to an influencer model and the most important (and lucrative) phone call of Tom’s career.

Episode 74: Compassion in Leadership with Orchestral Conductor Tianyi Lu
Do More Good podcast
05/25/21 • 60 min
She is the Conductor-In-Residence with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the inaugural Female-Conductor-In-Residence at the Welsh National Opera and principal conductor of the St. Woolos Sinfonia. She was the first woman to win the Guido Cantelli, won the Sir Georg Solti International and is our latest guest on the Do More Good podcast.
Kenneth immediately takes the opportunity to audition whilst James relives some further embarrassment from his youth, before Tianyi tells us why she loves Wales and clocking up the airmiles. There’s the pressure of creating a masterpiece on the fly, developing resilience and the power of compassion. We talk teaching methods, how to command a room and becoming a trailblazing rolemodel for future generations. The boys bag a ticket to Tianyi’s next performance, Kenneth takes the dog walk high-brow and we hear Mozart’s latest hit in an absolute classic of a DMG.

Episode 73: Realising the scalability of the internet with Nick Burne, Give Panel CEO
Do More Good podcast
05/12/21 • 61 min
We’re talking to Nick Burne, the founder and CEO of Givepanel, not to mention the former manager of The Dead Lovers and passionate burger fan. We kick things off by delving into our first posts on new media, getting into debt and being interviewed by your future wife.
Nick tells us about how he went looking for a drummer, had an epiphany at Wembley Stadium and realised the power of the internet. There’s his first desk job and being forced centre stage by the tsunami. We hear about how you can go from selling your sister’s toys on commission to raising a fortune through digital for charities and the importance of investment. Nick explains how aligning with Facebook is both a strength and a weakness. We buy a helicopter online, learn some harsh lessons on taking products to market, return the shopping trolley and try to give billionaires a good press.
Kenneth is branching out into fashion and we all celebrate a pretend birthday.

Episode 72: The importance of supporting your local community with Liverpool FC Foundation CEO, Matt Parish
Do More Good podcast
04/28/21 • 56 min
We’ve made a strong start to our sixth season, speaking with CEO of the Liverpool FC Foundation, Matt Parish. He keeps possession for the longest answer in Do More Good history as he entertains the boys with his tale from South London PE Teacher to Community Champion for one of the best-known brands in the world.
We hear about how Matt’s career went from balls, bibs and cones to begrudgingly donning the suit. There’s a recognition of how a club owes its fans, collaborating with the neighbours and unexpected generosity from supporters far further afield. We have 12 hour road trips and local slang, plus gossip on meeting Jurgen Klopp and which players are the first to step forward. Matt tells us how the club stepped up and picked up the phone during the pandemic, the work they do in the city and his plans to do more globally.
Kenneth goes full Geordie, James avoids a playground beating and we make a plea to Messi.

Episode 71: Tottenham Forward turned Charity Founder with ex-pro footballer Junior McDougald
Do More Good podcast
04/20/21 • 51 min
The boys impress this week’s guest with tales of their sporting prowess before Junior talks about how his career as a professional footballer with Tottenham and England sparked a passion to help transform the lives of young children faced with adversity growing up as he did.
There are the confessions of a class clown, developing resilience and importance of stability in young lives. We hear how the Sports Connections Foundation are celebrating their tenth anniversary but the founder still feels like he learns every day on a charity apprenticeship. We also find out about staring on a classic TV show, choosing between Burkina Faso and Aiya Napa, plus just how easy it is to represent your county in hockey.
Role models, the importance of good teachers and the lies they tell on Wikipedia all get a mention before Kenneth heads off to blow out the candles on his birthday cake.

Episode 78: Meeting people that change your life path with mental health campaigner and charity founder Jonny Benjamin MBE
Do More Good podcast
07/20/21 • 51 min
Our guest this week is an award-winning mental health campaigner, film producer, public speaker, writer and vlogger. Jonny Benjamin was the star of an iconic mental health campaign, #FindMike - to reconnect with the man who had talked him out of jumping from a bridge in London six years earlier.
Kenneth and James kick things off with the trivial matter of people who have changed their lives before we get onto social media, the longer-terms effect of the pandemic and the impact of a difficult diagnosis. We talk religion, the importance of language and going viral globally. Jonny explains how the story is still ongoing. There's the power of youth, working for the next generation and, as ever, how collaboration is the answer - all done in time for an ice cream.
