Dear Franny - Ep #30 Julia Armet -- Loving At A Higher Level
play

10/17/19 • 51 min

“Play the game to change the game.” Julia Armet is a leadership coach and a matchmaking industry changemaker. She and Francesca talk hearing to and following your intuition, Human Design, the danger of “shoulds” in love and life, and how to raise the level of consciousness in dating culture, and more.

Julia Armet is a teacher and student of social politics with a philosophy that speaks: “play the system to change the system.” A graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Julia concentrated in Identity, studying the individual’s role in creating the cultural consciousness. As the Director of Community at Tawkify, she’s built a national community of 175 independent matchmakers united in the shared mission to be the change agents of dating culture. Inspired by thought leadership, Julia launched Higher Playbook in 2018 to honor her love of the game and her higher purpose: to shine a light on inspirational people. She hosts the Higher Playbook Collective, a weekly virtual mastermind to challenge, create, and celebrate leadership. Today, she partners with free agents— from professional athletes to professional matchmakers— to unlock their purpose and leverage their voices to create a more inclusive world.

Dear Franny - Ep #62 An Interview With My Mother! Joyce Hogi
play

07/31/20 • 53 min

Let’s just start by saying my mother is amazing. I’ll follow that by saying little did I realize how strong, selfless and amazing she is until I looked back at how she raised me, always allowing me to be myself. It is through her tireless pursuit of ambitious goals and fierce refusal to compromise her values that she instilled in me an appreciation for treating others as I would love to be treated.

We unpacked her childhood days during the segregation period, growing up as the last born in a family of nine, what drew her to New York, her love story and the five things I love most about her. Even though she was exposed to education facilities, both of her parents (my grandparents) didn’t get past elementary school.

Despite her lack of “qualifications”, you’d be surprised at how wise she is. I took away much insight from this conversation just as I have from academic professors and renown entrepreneurs. Her hard-won life lessons will forever be ingrained in me.

I hope this interview inspires you to know that regardless of your relationship with your own mother, healing is possible. And to appreciate the women in your life and thank them for what they have done in your life.

Dear Franny - Ep #121 Love Over Fear
play

09/13/24 • 22 min

Hey everyone! Welcome back to season six of the Dear Franny Podcast! 🎉 I’m Franny, and I’m super excited to kick off this new season with you all. Today, I’m diving into my journey of writing my first book, ‘How to Find True Love,’ and I’ve got some juicy insights to share.

We’re chatting about why being your authentic self is a game-changer in dating and relationships. It’s all about moving from a fear-based mindset to one that’s rooted in love. Trust me, embracing this shift can make a world of difference!

I’ll be talking about the whole love journey—why it’s important to enjoy the ride and make choices that really align with what you want. No more reacting out of fear or feeling pressured by society. It’s about being true to yourself and making decisions that reflect your desires and values.

Plus, I’m giving you a sneak peek into our next episode, where we’ll dig even deeper into the different layers of authenticity.

Here are some of the highlights:

“Dating apps have taken so much of people’s romantic agency away from them.”

“Love is a verb, and choosing love is all about growth and learning.”

“Dating from a place of love versus fear leads to better outcomes.”

Can’t wait to dive in with you all. Let’s make this season the best one yet! 💖

“We live in a racist society, so we’re just going to take our racism and our sexism and put it onto technology. You could argue that because we can hide behind technology we can even delve more into racism, fetishism and discrimination.” Did you know that college educated women face additional challenges in finding love online? And that it’s even more challenging for college educated women of color? And that it’s most challenging for black women? Doctoral candidate Sarah Adeyinka-Skold’s research on digital dating reveals the extent to which all women are finding men intimidated by their education, and how women of color are dealing with systemic racism. She and Francesca share how they met their partners and their advice for women of color looking for love.

Sarah's Bio

Sarah Adeyinka-Skold is a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include race, family, and gender. Her dissertation explores the experiences of college-educated women of varying ethno-racial backgrounds as they search for romantic partners in the digital age. She was interviewed at length about her dissertation research in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the city’s largest newspaper. Sarah has also published research on racial formation among European immigrant and US-born white women in Sociology of Race and Ethnicity. Sarah’s future research will explore relationship formation among LGTBQ+ individuals of varying ethno-racial and class backgrounds, with a goal to produce relationship formation theory that is inclusive of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Sarah graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology; and also earned a Master's of Social Work from the University of Chicago. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has worked as a hospital social worker at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania for the last 11 years. In her spare time, Sarah sleeps, reads fiction and non-fiction work by Black women of the African diaspora, and watches Law and Order with her husband. Sarah can also be found laughing hysterically about something she saw on Black Twitter.
