OttaWOW, what an eight months it has been. The exchange has flown by, making many an amazing memory and risking many a limb to frostbite. With me to answer all your questions about our experience from the Instagram Q+A is the wonderful, Dot Holt, a friend and fellow student from Edinburgh University on exchange at Carleton. We discuss the best bits from exchange, the highs and lows of harsh climate, our biggest regrets during exchange and of course, some final woo girl moments.

Dot's karaoke go-to: Darius Rucker - Wagon Wheel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvKyBcCDOB4)

Thanks for listening over the past eight months and hope you've enjoyed it!

This week on the Brit with a Cap podcast, my guest Tamta Gagoshidze-Davies and I talk a bit more candidly about our mental health. One thing people don't mention is how going abroad can affect your mental health, both positively and negatively. We discuss how we have dealt with the highs and lows of our year abroad and how the end result often can be incredibly positive. From identity crises to Instagram lies to the sense of achievement felt from overcoming any of these social pressures to whether Tamta is a snickers or a mars bar, we delve into our feelings on what has been a big, amazing, rollercoaster of a year. Please know that whatever you're doing that it's okay not to be okay and if you need to talk, feel free to email me at sophierfdesalis@gmail.com.

And I'm back! After a busy semester two, I am delighted to announce the return of the Brit with a Cap podcast.

Kicking off season 2, my guests for this week are Will Chaffey and Paddy O'Brien. Travelling all the way from the land down under, they came to experience the joys (and sorrows) of a Canadian winter. We chat about their time here in Ottawa so far and how they've managed dealing living in the coldest city in Canada this year - minus 30 degrees anyone?

Paddy's karaoke go-to: The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnigc08J6FI)

Will's karaoke go-to: Angels by Robbie Williams (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luwAMFcc2f8)

Goodbye semester one (and Canada for some)! In the final episode of this semester, I have the wonderful Sarah Lawson and Debbie Gibson on the show. These International Business students from the University of Strathclyde were among the first people I met in Canada so could not be more suited to give a semester round up. From day 1 to day 109, we discuss the highs and lows (but mostly highs) of the exchange, offer tips for those heading on a semester abroad and of course, some more woo girl moments. Sarah's karaoke go-to: Abba - Mamma Mia (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unfzfe8f9NI) Debbie's karaoke go-to: The All-American Rejects - Gives You Hell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxUATkpMQ8A) For all of the karaoke tunes this semester, follow the Brit with a Cap: Karaoke playlist on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/user/katiefds/playlist/4NCaRjqUO6BOx3xTpTGNMY?si=oP18kXvFQqiH7pPP-QF6gw) I'll be back in January - thanks to everyone who's listened over the past four months! I’m back after a two week interlude of work...but hey, they say distance makes the heart grow fonder, right? This week, my guest is the lovely John Gaius Coniconde - a Carleton student who went on a semester abroad last year to Swansea University in Wales. We discuss his experience in the UK or 'Britain' as Canadians like to call it, and what he really misses about British culture from bagpipes to accents. Great tips for future year abroad-goers from the UK or Canada. John's karaoke go-to: John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Roads (www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vrEljMfXYo) Instagram: @britwithacap

This week I am joined by the brilliant Jamie Gardner (sadly Justin couldn’t make it) and we get political. A Politics and Parliamentary Studies student at the University of Leeds, Jamie is on placement at the Canadian parliament, working for an MP. He gives us an insight into life in Canadian parliament, a round up of current issues in Canada, the UK and the US and we discuss the darker side of Canadian politics. Warning: this may leave your perfect image of Canadian politics and of Justin Trudeau in tatters - time for a reality check people! Information on the Indigenous peoples in Canada: https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/native-people-social-conditions (the Justice section is particularly of interest); Article from the Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/27/canada-150th-anniversary-celebration-indigenous-groups). Jamie’s go-to karaoke song: Bon Jovi - Livin’ On A Prayer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK9QqIzhwkY) Instagram: @britwithacap

In this special edition of the Brit with a Cap podcast, I am joined by my mother, Felicity De Salis and sister, Katie! Both University of Exeter alumni, they too have experienced student life abroad. Felicity was an international student in England for her full degree after growing up in Zimbabwe and Katie worked as an English language teaching assistant for the British Council in France. We compare lives as internationals abroad, what they've loved about Canada and discover that my own mother doesn't actually listen to my podcast... A really good website for third year abroad: https://globalgraduates.com Katie's karaoke go-to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vvBAONkYwI Felicity's karaoke go-to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCuMWrfXG4E Instagram: @britwithacap

To celebrate the legalisation of cannabis in Canada, this week I am joined by Alex Brooking, Euan Bouteiller and Basile Nock to discuss all things 'green' from an international exchange student's perspective.
