Atlanta United finally returned to our TV screens Saturday night against New York Red Bulls for a match that counted toward the regular season table, which could only mean one thing: a disappointing result. In this case, it was a frustrating 0-1 loss after Florian Valot scored the way-too-easy winner in the 5th minute of the match. The ensuing 85 minutes was filled with humidity, hard work, and chances gone awry. Manuel Castro couldn't sort his feet out to finish one of a couple golden chances, and late-game sub Adam Jahn was denied a late winner by a dude who looks like a character from Salute Your Shorts who's all grown up. Atlanta United 2 returns to USL play July 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET against Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium. The match will be streamed on ESPN+. The USL Championship announced the opening weekend of games that will kick off the league’s resumption of the 2020 season. Nine games are scheduled between July 11-13, with five of those contests to be aired live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. Atlanta’s only match of the 2020 season to-date occurred on March 8 against Charleston Battery. For the remaining 15 matches of the 2020 USL Championship regular season, Atlanta United 2 has been placed in Group H with the Battery, Miami FC and Tampa Bay. Over the course of the season, they will play each of the other Group H teams four times, while the remaining matches will come against teams in proximate geographic regions.
