This week on The AFA Podcast, we bring you another interview! AFA Contributor Evan Vernon (making his podcast debut) spoke with Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis, director, animator, editor, producer and writer on the one-man feature film Away (opening in UK and Ireland cinemas on August 28).
During the fascinating conversation, Gints discusses his path to animation and how he came to embark on such an ambitious project at such a young age. He also talks about why he made certain decisions when making the film, and his key influences, which include animators, live-action filmmakers and even videogame designers.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/animation-for-adults/messageWelcome bold adventurers to the fourth episode of our retro cartoon podcast Saturday Morning Cartoon Club! This time Rachael and Chris grab their swords and shields to venture forth into the world of the 1983-85 Dungeons and Dragons animated series. The fantasy cartoon was a fixture on US and UK TV from the 80's through until the early 2000s and was many youngster's first introduction to the iconic role-playing game. Chris grew up with it but knows nothing about D&D, while Rachael is less familiar but is a recent convert to the real thing- so is able to offer insight into how it relates to the fantasy franchise that spawned it.

Episode 143: A Whisker Away
Animation For Adults: The AFA Podcast
07/09/20 • 100 min
This week The AFA Podcast, the original recipe is back, and Rachael, Chris and Dan are all here for the first time in quite a while! What brought us together? We came together to discuss the latest animated movie to hit Netflix, A Whisker Away from Studio Colorido and writer Mari Okada.
The whole episode is dedicated to our discussion on the feline-themed film (with a few tangents, naturally) but we talk in quite a lot of detail about the film. If you haven't seen it yet, we'd recommend waiting until you have, although we do give a warning before we discuss the film's later acts.
If you love fantasy anime and especially if you love cats- don't miss out on this charming film!

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/animation-for-adults/messageSaturday Morning Cartoon Club is AFA's retro podcast dedicated to our favourite cartoons from our childhood- or occasionally modern cartoons that still give us that classic Saturday morning feeling. We've done a couple of episodes before, but now we hope to make them more regularly. And what better place to start than with Disney's Gargoyles, now it's finally available streaming on Disney Plus.
Big kids Rachael and Chris talk about their memories of the show and discuss the opening 5 episode Arc Awakening, how it compares to the rest of the Disney Afternoon line-up and our hopes for a revival. So grab your favourite cereal, jump on the sofa and join us as we return to the Age Of The Gargoyles!

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/animation-for-adults/messageThe AFA Podcast is back with our second commentary episode! This time Dan and Rachael head under the sea to watch Disney's 1989 classic, The Little Mermaid. If you didn't listen to our first commentary episode (The Castle Of Cagliostro) our commentaries are not that different from our usual discussion episodes. You can listen independently from the film, but you'll definitely get the most out of it if you watch along! The discussion includes stories from the production, how it compares to the original Hans Christian Anderson tale, and some salty language. The Little Mermaid is available to wtach on Disney Plus.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/animation-for-adults/messageWelcome to the latest AFA Podcast interview special. As fantasy-themed adult comedy Tigtone returns to Adult Swim for a second season, AFA's Evan Vernon talks to co-creator Andrew Koehler and voice actor, writer and producer Blake Anderson (best known for his role in live-action series Workaholics and Woke).
They discuss how Tigtone evolved from plans to create a live-action fantasy comedy movie and what to expect from the second season. Tigtone season 2 is airing at 12 Midnight Sundays from September 13. Catch up with season one on adultswim.com. The first season is also available on Adult Swim on All4 in the UK
Tigtone returns! With their once idyllic fantasy land now reduced to an idyllic fantasy wasteland, Tigtone the master-questerer and his magically regenerative sidekick Helpy must face all new mischievous monsters, all new enchanted chaos, and all new irresistible quests in their all new baffling adventures! Tigtone is created by Andrew Koehler and Benjamin Martian, who also serve as executive producers with Blake Anderson (Workaholics). The quarter-hour series combines highly rendered, hand-painted fantasy art, motion capture performance, 2D animation, and pseudo-3D visual effects. The wizards at Titmouse, the award-winning animation production company, have ventured into uncharted territory to pioneer this radical new style, creating a Tigtone universe that is beautifully unsettling. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/animation-for-adults/message
