In this episode we chat with addiction expert and cousellor Dr David Webb. David qualified from Wits in 1992 with an honours degree in zoology and his MBBCh. He has worked in clinical medicine and the pharmaceutical and advertising industries. He is an independent professional medical writer and has widely published on subjects including cardiovascular health and diabetes, mental health, wellness, pain, mindfulness and addiction. He is a qualified personal fitness trainer through the Health and Fitness Professionals Association and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Mindfulness from the Department of Family Medicine, University of Stellenbosch. However, David’s primary interest is helping people to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. Not by swapping one drug for another, but by understanding our humanness and learning to grow into a life of wellness, purpose and meaning. David is an associate at the Houghton House Group of drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities and an active member of community addiction support groups. His own journey through depression and addiction is described in a collection of poetry, The Saint of Travellers, available on his website. Video
