In this course, we will use the anthropological approach and methodology to understand witch-hunts and persecution. We start by looking at magic, witchcraft and sorcery and explaining the persistence of related beliefs and practices. As we will see the basic idea of witch persecution is that we have an image of a witch (or sorcerer) and then we pin it on someone. We analyze this image in greater detail. Pinning this image on someone is a process of accusation; we analyze among whom, why and how accusations occur. Finally, we look at some “witch-hunts”—including the Great Witch-hunt, the Salem Trials, and McCarthyism—in greater detail.

We live in a Hybrid Analog Digital Society and it's time to stop ignoring the profound impact technology has on us. Falling in love with someone is easy. Staying in love with the same person, year after year, is much harder. That's why we're recording an hour of conversation every week of our first year of marriage. For us, it’s a way to dig into our fascination with one another and this existential question of lasting love. For you, it’s an invitation to creep on our marriage as it unfolds, mistake by mistake and lesson by lesson, since no one ever really told us about theirs. We’ll work through fights, expose probably too much of our sex life, and try to get to answers for how to stay in love in this little human experiment called I Think I Love You. Riley & Caro Consider also seeking out podcasts created by black people, as well as those which aim to shed further light on systemic racism in America. A few suggestions: @nprcodeswitch , @yoisthisracist , the 1619 project by the @nytimes, “74 Seconds” (which tells the story of Philando Castile’s murder), and @livvperez’s podcast are a few that come to mind.

Welcome to Mirage Travel Writing Podcast, I’m your host William Barlow.
After two decades of indigent wanderings, I’m coming to you with stories, curiosities, and questions. In this first season, there will be narratives of sleeping on the streets in European capitals. There will be tales of crocodile men in remote Central African Republic and armed groups in eastern DR Congo all told through the experience of an aid worker. We will try to understand what it means to be a foreigner in clanic Palestinian society, and why not chronicle the ins and outs of a Parisian sexclub during a gangbang. Stories, all told with the tact of an anthropologist. Somewhat.

The storytelling is pulled from ten years of published and unpublished writing about the West, the Middle East, and Africa and raises questions relating to cross-cultural understanding or better yet, misunderstanding. I welcome your feedback and interpretations of stories, namely on the many oddities that come from travel across cultures.

The podcast will also feature writing from listeners. Writing that can be published anonymously. Writing of confusion or awe at the puzzle of cultures. Stories that serve no other purpose but to be told.

Behavioral science is a cornerstone of modern marketing practice, but much of what passes itself off as behavioral science is just bs. Good social science gives us the insights and roadmap we need to change behavior, but bad social science just muddies the water and tarnishes the social sciences. As behavior change is a core objective of marketing, getting behavioral science right is crucial. Join us as two behavioral scientists sound off on what is, and isn't, good social science, from a variety of disciplines covering new topics every podcast.

The Warwick Critical Finance (WCF) Group is a study group based at the PAIS department of the University of Warwick which takes a critical approach to new and emerging trends in finance. We seek to create a sustained conversation among Warwick researchers working on different aspects of finance - from the level of global financial flows to everyday financialisation - and how finance intersects and interacts with key dimensions such as development, class, gender, race or geography. The group aims to develop a productive awareness of the numerous projects, questions, and ideas pursued in finance research at Warwick and beyond. We also offer PhD students and early career researchers working on finance the possibility to present their research in the group and receive feedback from fellow finance researchers. Throughout the year, the WCF group organizes lectures, conferences and workshops aimed at strengthening scholarly exchange and at shining a light on the multiple approaches and issues to be discovered within the critical study of finance. The WCF group works in collaboration with the International Political Economy (IPE) Cluster at PAIS. If you would like to present your own work, or if you would like to suggest further events please contact us on: [email protected] You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook! Our culture is in crisis and I don’t trust woke universities and authoritarian governments to give us the solution. I examine modern culture through history and anthropology, as well as other sources like indigenous knowledge and common sense. This is a show for those who love academics but hate academia, and want to learn about social studies without the constraining limits of woke universities.
