Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? was a question shared by brides Helen McLaughlin and Karen Whitehouse after they tied the knot on 11 August, 2018 on a boat in Amsterdam. It was a question that launched a podcast, which led to the hiring of unqualified detective Lauren Kilby, the purchase of a €99 lie detector, and the bothering of some of the world’s best forensic experts - all in an attempt to find out “poo dunnit”.

For season 2, the investigative trio is back with a brand new mystery set in Sweden (Scandi Noir if you will) called The Case Of The Tiny Suit/Case. They now live by the phrase “when the cops say no, we say yes”. This season explores a serial act of reverse theft: a tiny three piece corduroy suit and a suitcase containing threatening items were planted on the victim’s veranda in the middle of nowhere. Our forensic experts are also back on board, not because they want to be, but because we asked really really nicely, (and Karen can be unnervingly persuasive).

Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin discuss all things in the geek entertainment spectrum.
The basic facts of Holmes are well-known to nearly every literate person on the globe. He was the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and made appearances in fifty-six short stories and four novels. He solved cases from 221B Baker Street in London with the assistance of his faithful companion, Dr. Watson. Holmes became so popular that Doyle couldn’t get away with killing him.
Holmes is one of the few true timeless characters in literature. His canonical adventures may have been set in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but in the hands of a competent author, with a few modifications, Holmes could show up at a medieval castle or on a starship and still be a powerful character.
Every detective story that enjoyed any success in the past century, even if written as the antithesis of Holmes (such as Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade), owes something of its success to Doyle’s great detective for getting the public interested in the genre. Edgar Allan Poe’s C. Auguste Dupin may have been the first true detective in literature and an inspiration for Holmes, but even Dupin owes something to Holmes, as few people outside the academic world would care that Dupin existed without the wild success of Holmes.
Holmes has been recreated too many times to count, and each actor brings his own spin. The radio recreations of Holmes began October 20, 1930 when William Gillette, perhaps the great popularizer of Holmes, took the role to a new medium. It has continued off and on since them on a variety of networks including, NBC (1930-33) (1934-36) (1955), Blue Network (1939-42), Mutual Network (1943-46), (1947-49), ABC (1946-47) (1949-50) (1956), BBC (1954, and many more years.), BBC-WFMT Chicago (1959-69).
Host Adam Graham is your guide through every circulating old time radio Sherlock Holmes episode including programs starring Basil Rathbone, Orson Welles, Tom Conway, John Stanley, and Sir John Gielgud.

Dragnet was created and produced by Jack Webb, who starred as the terse Sgt. Friday. Webb had starred in a few mostly short-lived radio programs, but Dragnet would make him one of the major media personalities of his era.Webb was a stickler for accurate details, and Dragnet used many authentic touches, such as the LAPD's actual radio call sign (KMA-367), and the names of many real department officials, such as Ray Pinker and Lee Jones of the crime lab or Chief of Detectives Thad Brown. Dragnet was perhaps the most famous and influential police procedural drama in American media history. The series gave millions of Americans a feel for the boredom and drudgery, as well as the danger and heroism, of real-life police work. Dragnet earned praise for improving the public opinion of police officers. Actor and producer Jack Webbâs aims in Dragnet were for realism and unpretentious acting. He achieved both goals, and Dragnet remains a key influence on subsequent police dramas in many media. The shows cultural impact is demonstrated by the fact that even after five decades, elements of Dragnet are known to those who've never seen or heard the program.

Enjoy all 43 action-packed adventures of International troubleshooter Frank Race. The former OSS operative turned freelance troubleshooter traveled the world righting wrongs and solving mysteries. Tom Collins and later Paul Dubov star. Adam Graham is your host, and provides commentary as part of the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio podcast.
Mystery is My Hobby came to air as Murder is My Hobby, a title with an amusing double meaning. However, after 34 weeks, the series gained a sponsor–the Benefit Life Insurance Company of Omaha, Nebraska. They didn’t like the name. So thus it was changed. The series starred Glenn Langan as Mystery Writer Barton Drake, who teams up each week with Inspector Noah Danton to solve the weekly puzzle. At the end of each episode, Drake is sure to work in his catchphrase, “Murder/Mystery is My Hobby.”
Beyond these basic facts, the series is an unsolved mystery. The episodes that circulate among fans are from the Syndicated series and all include the, “Mystery is My Hobby” tag rather than “Murder is My Hobby.” Various websites will give dates ranging from 1945-51 for the series’ airing. However, newspaper logs from the Digital Deli confirm that Murder is My Hobby premiered in 1945 over the Mutual Network. Beyond that, we don’t know how long the series aired or what order episodes aired in for syndication. Confusing this is information in the Radio Gold index logs which show that the show used the same episodes repeatedly in different syndication packages, so even though there’s an episode #135, we don’t know if there were 135 episodes made. This makes the series difficult to research and nearly impossible to date. However, the episodes are self-contained and lack continuity so they don’t have to be listened to in any particular order.
These episodes are hosted by Adam Graham and were originally released as part of the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio podcast.

Perry Mason is a fictional defense attorney who originally appeared in detective fiction by Erle Stanley Gardner. This long running radio drama had several actors who played the famous lawyer starting with Bartlett Robinson and then followed by Santos Ortega, Donald Briggs, and finally John Larkin who played the famous attorney after 1947. The radio portrayal of Perry Mason is a far more involved lawyer then the one who became famous on TV, the radio version would rather swap gunshots with evildoers than sit in a boring courtroom, waiting for the deliberation! The show was only 10 minutes and was more intense and favored action than courtroom drama. Perry Mason ran 12 seasons and moved to TV in the late 1950's with the now famous portrayal by Raymond Burr. Each show follows a continues story line similar to soap operas. Join us as we join Perry Mason in crime mysteries and court room drama.

Walk in the shoes of Lead Homicide Detective Chris Mannina as she brings to life compelling cases from her career and analyzes cold cases across the country.
In 1939, Miami-based Private Detective Michael Shayne was first published in paperbacks by Davis Dresser (writing under the pseudonym Brett Halliday) and quickly became a sensational hard-boiled private eye who would appear in 77 novels and 300 short stories enduring from the 1930s through the 1970s.
Shayne quickly made the leap to films with Lloyd Nolan playing Shayne in seven well-made B-movies between 1940 and 1942. There was another film series made in 1946-47 from the poverty row PRC films starring Hugh Beaumont.
Shayne was also big over radio. The first series of Michael Shayne Adventures aired over the West Coast Mutual network as Michael Shayne Private Detective and starred Wally Maher as the lead. The series took its lead in many ways from the Nolan movies with a lighter touch. It officially had the Shayne character in Oakland rather than Miami. It featured well-characterized tales, solid mysteries, and great chemistry amongst the regular cast that was reminiscent of a later West Coast Mutual show Let George Do It.
The second radio series was The New Adventures of Michael Shayne, produced by Bill Rousseau and starring Jeff Chandler. In contrast to Mutual’s series, The New Adventures was one of the most hard-boiled radio detective series produced during the golden age of radio and was set in the mysterious city of New Orleans. The series was syndicated from the mid-1940s and for decades afterwards.
The final Michael Shayne radio series was The Adventures of Michael Shayne which aired from 1952-53 over ABC. It managed to have three different leads in its first fourteen weeks but had the virtue of being set in Miami.
Michael Shayne made his way to television much later. In the late 1950s on an episode of the TV anthology series, Decision, Mark Stevens played the detective and the episode was repackaged as a pilot for a TV series that was never made.
In 1960, the series was produced with former Mr. and Mrs. North star Richard Denning starring as the lead. It was a well-made detective series. Unfortunately, it aired in an era that was awash in great detective shows and it wasn’t exactly faithful to the books, a fact that many Michael Shayne novels of the era poked fun at.
In addition, Michael Shayne had a comic book tied into the TV show. Like many characters of the era, Michael Shayne went through a wide variety of iterations to please various audiences: from the tough private eye of the books and New Adventures series, to the lighter approach of Lloyd Nolan and Wally Maher, to the typical early 60s PI played by Denning, there are many different interpretations of the character. Yet, to those who know, the name of Michael Shayne is still remembered for quality detective fiction regardless of the iteration.
Adam Graham hosts these old time radio episodes and they were originally released as part of The Great Detectives of Old TIme Radio podcast.
