Marlon and Jake Read Dead People is a podcast hosted by the Man Booker Prize-winning and internationally bestselling author Marlon James and his editor, Jake Morrissey, Executive Editor at Riverhead Books. In each episode, Marlon and Jake talk about authors—specifically dead authors. Authors they like. Authors they hate. Great books, terrible books, and books they love that you’d never expect them to. As a writer and an editor, Marlon and Jake have read thousands of books between them, and they’re not shy in expressing their opinions about them. Sometimes they’ll agree, sometimes they won’t, but in every episode, they’ll tell you what they think— uncensored and with no holds barred. (That’s why the authors have to be dead.) So, listen along to hear about the spectacularly good, the hilariously bad, and the brutally honest.

Or why the media is generally pro-war?
Want to know why we never hear about the ruling class?
Maybe it's the fact that just a handful of multinational corporations control 90% of the media in America.

I created this podcast to hold in-depth conversations about topics not usually covered by the mainstream media, including oligarchy, the class divide, corporate consolidation of the media, the healthcare crisis, the growing labor movement, the military-industrial complex, the failed bipartisan foreign policy consensus and more.

Welcome to Storied Arcs! A read-along deep dive into comics, one story arc at a time...
In each episode, we will discuss one story arc, typically in the form of a trade paperback, for a completed comic series. In general, we will be avoiding ongoing or continuing series so that we can discuss a work in its entirety.
We’ll also be avoiding the “big two” (Marvel and DC.) While we love those comics, there are plenty of podcasts covering characters like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and so on. Instead, we’re excited to explore some of the great creator-owned stories. We’ll deep dive into the story while evaluating the prose, art, and all the easter eggs we can find.

A reading from the new book, Hamlet in Exile, by Ulf Kirchdorfer. Hamlet in Exile is a collection of poems in which Ulf Kirchdorfer imagines the Hamlet from Shakespeare's play to travel to other parts of the world and in other periods of time. Poor Yorick had nothing on the Hamlet who ambles and sometimes tumbles from the Renaissance into the 21st century in this witty and ironic collection by Ulf Kirchdorfer. The young prince goes fishing, skates on ice, paints, plays Jeopardy and the guitar, muses on the troubles of American poets who, he finds, have spun his anxieties into contemporary webs of contemplation. Kirchdorfer's read his Ernest Jones, and his Hamlet is hung on pricks, pokes, holes, smacks, and snatches. This collection is a marvel of literary imagination.
