Hamburger Generation (or as our parents call us – جيل الهمبرجر) is a podcast show full of light-hearted stories about the lives of 2nd generation Arab expats. Great Stories by Great Storytellers! “Hamburger Generation” or “جيل الهمبرجر” is a term coined by Arab elders to describe today’s spoiled and westernized Arab youth. We chose to embrace the term with humor as it playfully describes the Arab millennials. Brought to you by Jamil Adas & Isra Abu Zayed. Happy Listening Burgers!

AAWW Radio is the podcast of the Asian American Writers' Workshop, an NYC literary arts space at the intersection of migration, race, and social justice. Listen to AAWW Radio and you’ll hear selected audio from our current and past events, as well as occasional original episodes. We’ve hosted established writers like Claudia Rankine, Maxine Hong Kingston, Roxane Gay, Amitav Ghosh, Ocean Vuong, Solmaz Sharif, and Jenny Zhang. Our events are intimate and intellectual, quirky yet curated, and dedicated to social justice. We curate our events to juxtapose novelists and activists, poets and intellectuals, and bring together people who usually wouldn’t be in the same room. We’ve got it all: from avant-garde poetry to post-colonial politics, feminist comics to lyric verse, literary fiction to dispatches from the left. A sanctuary for the immigrant imagination, we believe Asian American stories deserve to be told. Learn more by visiting aaww.org Produced by the Asian American Writers' Workshop.

afikra is all about asking questions and exploring something new. This series takes some of the questions about the histories and cultures of the Arab world asked and explored in one of our community presentations, and broadens it into a podcast episode hosted by Mysa Kafil-Hussain and Yasmin Khawaja. Joining them are community members from our global chapters to explore a topic that they researched and presented. The presentations are the ‎culmination of the afikra coaching process to help identify a topic, research it and develop the ‎presentation. The goal of these presentations is to showcase the presenter’s curiosity and share some knowledge on a ‎topic related to the Arab world’s histories and cultures.

Through a series of expert interviews, this podcast mini-series explores some of the most pressing questions raised by the CSIS Middle East Program report, “Citizens in Training: Conscription and Nation-building in the United Arab Emirates.” Hear from leading experts on the Gulf, the UAE, and modern militaries in general what the UAE’s bold experiment in military conscription as a nationbuilding tool reveals about the leadership’s diagnosis of its key challenges at a pivotal moment in its national trajectory, the rise of new nationalism in the Gulf and GCC states’ efforts to prepare for a post-oil future, and the implications of conscription for both militaries and societies in a 21st century world. Jon Alterman and Margo Balboni of the Middle East Program host. Produced by Emily Grunewald and Yumi Araki. For listeners who want a deeper dive into the UAE’s conscription program, the full “Citizens in Training” report with a two-page executive summary is available here.
