A podcast delving into 101 amazing songs from the 1980s that dealt with the threats posed by nuclear war.

You'll hear us discuss the biggest hits of the decade (did you even know they were about nuclear war?), songs that you might have forgotten and that need to be heard again, and songs that you may never heard.

Every fortnight, Dave and Pank will be exploring some of the best known hits from around the world, to lesser-known deeper cuts. Every genre of 80s music gets a look-in: punk, new wave, funk, soul, rock, heavy rock, indie, reggae, disco.

We will be discussing the songs from a musical and cultural perspective. What else was happening in the world of television and literature to help paint this nuclear landscape?

With every podcast, we will update our Spotify playlist with the songs we are going to discuss. Have a listen to the tunes, and then the chat, or the chat.

The history of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials told through music and story-telling in a format recalling an old time radio drama with a modern experimental prog-rock twist. Witch Hunt borrows freely from original sources of information from the time of the trials such as letters, books, poems, transcriptions of the trials themselves, as well as melodies from the Puritan hymn books. The music is highly original art-rock ranging from soft ambient soundscapes to heavy power riffs with many other stops along the way. The narrator provides a story teller voice that weaves a historical thread throughout each episode. Witch Hunt is conceived, written, and produced by Brian O'Connell, who records and produces the show, playing a wide variety of instruments and voice parts. O'Connell is a well known bassist and composer in New England who has performed with: Arukah, Dead Man's Waltz, Uncle Sammy, Gordon Stone, Gary Backstrom, Dave Brunyak, Interminable, and many others. In 2012 Brian debuted his rock opera Over The Line, a Jungian journey through modern consciousness, for a successful series of performances in Boston. Brian O'Connell - voice, 6 and 12 string guitars, fretted and fretless bass, upright bass, touch guitar, sintir, keyboards, moog synth, percussion Mike Harmon - drums, cymbals, percussion Rachel Koppelman - accordion www.brianvoconnell.com

My Classic Album' is a podcast about the most acclaimed and loved albums of all time! There are many great albums out there but there's an extra special ingredient that makes an album a classic album. Join Mike Norris as he dedicates each episode to one classic album and looks at the history of the album and its impact in the years following its release. 'My Classic Album' celebrates albums from the 1960's right through to the new millennium from musicians as timeless as The Beatles and Bob Dylan, bands who rock as hard as Led Zeppelin and KISS, as well as contemporary performers such as Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead. 'My Classic Album' has been extremely lucky to play host to incredible singers and musicians including Nathan Stephens-Griffin (Martha, ONSIND), Grammy Award winner Bruce Carroll, guitar virtuoso Adrian Nation (Sky Arts' Guitar Star) and rock singer and guitarist Beth Blade (Beth Blade and the Beautiful Disasters). All have chosen their classic album for the show along with future guests including Rob Wylde (Tigertailz) and blues singer Big Boy Bloater (Imelda May, Big Boy Bloater & The Limits) Whether it's an album you personally can't stop playing or one you've never actually heard, 'My Classic Album' is the perfect companion to some of the greatest albums in history!

Would you like some music to go with your story? Alex Austin hopes you will. He’s integrated the work of 20 contemporary bands and 40 songs into The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed. It’s the late Sixties, the Beatles intact, Jimi Hendrix exploding and the Doors demanding the world. And on the East Coast, famed resort Asbury Park, New Jersey, will become the epicenter of a new brand of rock and roll. But in January 1968, a boardwalk Liverpool lies in the future. Escalating crime and a fading reputation have shaken the City by the Sea. Asbury is at tipping point, Cast down into the fading resort on a bleak winter night, 22-year-old musician Sam Nesbitt wants to be big—Jimi Hendrix/Eric Clapton big—but he has to survive Asbury first. Witnessing the tail-end of a murder on his first night in town, Sam keeps his distance from the crime’s investigation. But the murder will crash back into Sam’s life. As Sam pursues his dream of glory, he rides a roller coaster of triumphs and defeats. He’s the outsider who can’t break in, he’s the guitarist that every band wants. He’s a working class hero, he’s a pawn in their game. He’s a dream lover, he’s breaking hearts. The Asbury music scene is the Wild Wild West: Shootouts on Main Street and rock and roll showdowns on Ocean Boulevard. In this increasingly surreal town, the Atlantic seems to be casting off a new band each day. They wash up on the boardwalk feet flocked with sand, water dripping from their guitars, looking for the stage, looking to face down the local talent. So Welcome to The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed, where Madam Marie’s not talking, Mr. Peanut’s not pushing Planters, and if you’re out after midnight you better be carrying a six-string. As in the novels of Richard Ford, Tobias Wolff and Jayne Anne Phillips, The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed uses a matter-of-fact tone, blunt, realistic dialogue, and graphic descriptions of violence to reflect Sam’s world. Woven into the story are songs of contemporary Asbury Park musicians. Songs of passion, struggle, chaos, longing, love and dreams.

U2-Y follows the design story of one of the biggest bands in rock and roll history.

It aims to celebrate a unique relationship; The creative partnership between designer/art director Steve Averill and the band U2.

This collaboration thrived and endured for over four and a half decades.

Before the sleeves, before any poster or visual ephemera, came the name itself. Steve gave them this name.

'U2'. A letter and a number. We will explore how the name itself became a monolith of design, whether it’s use is dominant or invisible.

Just the 2ofUs.

Steve is guided through the story of his career by his son, giving the series a unique and personal tone.

‘In recent years, I became fascinated by the idea of this creative collaboration enduring for such a long time', Gareth Anton Averill says.

The relationship that my father had with U2 was unique. I recognise this as being one of the longest-running creative relationships in music history, if not any creative or cultural industry.

I believe this is worth exploring and celebrating and asking the question, 'Why?’.

Alongside Steve's personal story, U2Y delves deep into design specifics. Topics discussed include the process of the pre-digital age, early computer-aided design, the advent of the Compact Disc and the explosion of promotional materials.

In essence, U2-Y tells the story of one of the biggest bands in the world from a different perspective; the record sleeve.

From Punk to Pop.

The story begins in 1977 with the Cultural explosion that was punk. Ireland's first punk group, 'The Radiators From Space', founded and fronted by Steve (Rapid), was the catalyst for his connection with U2.

The U2-Y Podcast will examine an album per episode. It begins with the invention of the name, 'U2' itself. It then journeys through each major campaign, up to and including the hyper-vivid years of the Pop album and Pop-mart tour.
