In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.

Listen to the entire epic series, which follows Survivors in Los Angeles after the world has been turned upside down.

It begins with “A Story of Survival” which spans from Chapters 1-48. Our survivors band together, fortify a safe haven known as the Tower, and discover that the Infected are far from the biggest threat they will have to face.

The adventure continues with two mini-series:

“Lockdown” - A small group of inmates and prison guards are trapped in the T-block at Twin Towers Jail. They are forced to work together and find a way to escape while the rest of the world ends around them.

“Goldrush” - Set 17 years after the main events of “A Story of Survival”, this is a recollection story that describes the efforts of the four Soldiers as they attempt a side mission to retrieve a suspected stash of gold bullion.

Our newest season is “We’re Alive: Descendants”:

The story of survival continues; the fight is not over.

18 years after the Outbreak, the world is starting to re-organize and rebuild, but many different forms of humanity are still struggling to survive in the aftermath. Nicholas Tink grew up in the shadow of his father- the late, great, Saul Tink. Little does he know that deep in the places where infected dwell, another descendant lies waiting.

Content Warning: This podcast contains descriptions of graphic violence, sexual references, and strong language. Listener discretion is advised.

Frequently Asked Questions About Horror Podcasts

What are horror podcasts?

Horror podcasts are audio shows that focus on delivering terrifying and chilling stories to the listeners. They often incorporate elements of suspense, supernatural occurrences, psychological thrillers, and other horror subgenres. These podcasts use sound effects, voice acting, and immersive storytelling techniques to create a spine-tingling experience.

What types of horror podcasts are available?

Horror podcasts encompass a wide range of subgenres and storytelling styles. Some common types of horror podcasts include supernatural horror, true crime horror, psychological horror, Lovecraftian horror, ghost stories, and urban legends. Each subgenre offers a unique approach to horror storytelling, catering to different preferences and interests.

Are horror podcasts suitable for all audiences?

Horror podcasts are typically targeted towards adult audiences due to their intense and often frightening content. They may contain graphic descriptions, violence, strong language, and mature themes. However, some horror podcasts are specifically designed for younger audiences and offer age-appropriate scares. It's essential to check the rating or content warnings of a horror podcast before listening, especially if you're sensitive to intense or disturbing material.

Are horror podcasts based on true stories?

While some horror podcasts are based on real-life events or inspired by true stories, many of them are entirely fictional. Creators often draw inspiration from urban legends, folklore, and their own imaginations to craft captivating horror narratives. Some podcasts may explicitly mention if they are based on true events, but it's always a good idea to research the podcast or episode description to determine its factual basis.

How can I find popular horror podcasts?

Finding popular horror podcasts is relatively easy as they have gained significant popularity in recent years. You can explore podcast directories on Goodpods, and use their search features to look for horror podcasts. Additionally, you can browse through "best of" lists, and recommendations from horror enthusiasts, or join horror podcast communities to discover new and highly regarded shows.

Fearless Films Podcast is a weekly show where we walk through horror movies, breaking down the beats, discussing the lore and interesting trivia of all the best (and worst) in the horror movie genre. The show started as Pete, the horror buff, explaining the plots of horror movies to Kevin, the scaredy cat, who hates being scared but is intrigued by these modern mythologies.
Kevin eventually retired from the podcast, but the show goes on! Pete is now joined by Sarah, who also loves horror movies, and they continue the tradition of explaining the scariest stories to all the scaredy cats out there, so they don't have to watch the movies.

NOW PLAYING: Descendants, The Janus Descending Sequel: Book One - Inheritance JANUS DESCENDING is limited series, science fiction/horror audio drama podcast, follows the arrival of two xenoarcheologists on a small world orbiting a binary star. But what starts off as an expedition to survey the planet and the remains of a lost alien civilization, turns into a monstrous game of cat and mouse, as the two scientists are left to face the creatures that killed the planet in the first place. Told from two alternating perspectives, Janus Descending is an experience of crossing timelines, as one character describes the nightmare from end to beginning, and the other, from beginning to the end. DESCENDANTS is a two-season limited series science-fiction adventure/thriller, and the sequel of Janus Descending. The story begins where Janus Descending left off, at our lost crew's nightmarish homecoming, and follows Peter's older brother, Axel, through the aftermath of the Janus Disaster. Three days after the wreckage of the Adamantine was found, crashed on the barren plains of the Rosseter Moon Colony, the remains of the missing ship were brought back to Aphelion Industries. But something survived the crash, and now, it's beginning to spread. As the Gorgons begin their rampage to consume and multiply, Axel, Captain Rori, and the ARC Juno team must fight their way out of the quarantined facilities, and find a way to stay alive... but in doing so, they just might damn their world...
