Who am I?

Creating content is not only fun but it's a valuable way to share important stories. On Dark Adaptation, my podcast about true crime and any and every thing dark, we share a plethora of cases and stories that everyone can benefit from listening to. I'm passionate about not only telling a good story, but an accurate, empathetic, meaningful story full of lessons, information, and resources. Dark Adaptation is an absolute passion project of mine. It's a true crime/dark history podcast that often explores unique and underreported stories that are important to tell and important for people to hear. I advocate for OTHERS, people who need a voice and don't have it or can't elevate it on their own, so I don't want to talk about myself... I want to use my platform to continue to share stories that need and deserve attention and resolution.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Dark Adaptation is mainly a true crime and dark history podcast. But the subjects can vary depending on if we have featured guests - like Paige who explores Cryptids and Folklore, or Steph who is our astrology queen. More importantly, we are always educational while keeping it as light hearted as possible and we are always respecting and advocating for any victim we are discussing. It's a show that many people can benefit from listening to - whether it's to hear an important message or to get that case no one has heard of into more ears - it's a show that deserves a listenership.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Episode 75: USA - Austin Lee Edwards: A Catfishing Cross-Country Criminal

Why this podcast?

Whenever we can, we like to discuss important messages and topics within the case we're exploring and this episode is the perfect example of that. In this episode we discuss an absolutely devastating true crime case that holds many important messages about online safety and protecting your children. There's resources linked in the episode description and valuable lessons are discussed throughout the telling of this story. Episode Description: People in Riverside California were left reeling when they heard the shocking news of a horrible crime committed in the usually peaceful neighbourhood of La Sierra South. Each detail they learned was more horrifying than the last. A teenage girl abducted; a law enforcement officer killed in a shootout; and 3 members of the beloved family found dead. Little did everyone know this story was much bigger, and it originated 2,600 miles away in Virginia with an absolute monster named Austin Lee Edwards.

3. Episode 71: Canada - Erin Chorney (Part 1)

Why this podcast?

One of the best things about Dark Adaptation is the time we take to discuss Canadian cases that are well worth the listen and deserve more attention. As Canadians, we know and understand the struggles of staying relevant and fighting for visibility in a sea on content that is rarely elevated. That's why we like to return to our roots once in a while and dive into a Canadian story that we can share with our diverse audience who listen from all around the world! Episode Description: (Part 1 of 2) Our story begins in April 2002, in the reputable city of Brandon, Manitoba, where Debbie and Darcy Chorney enter a police station to report their 18-year-old daughter missing. It's out of character for Erin Chorney to be gone this long without contacting a family member or friend, and police take action right away. What ensues is a roller coaster of an investigation filled with twists, turns, and a plethora of covert operations. Tune in to Part 1 to learn about Erin and the first half of the investigation into her disappearance. Part 2 will be available on Monday, September 25, 2023.

4. MMM Case #5 - MURDERED - Nadine Gurczenski

Why this podcast?

MMM stands for Missing, Murdered, Mysterious and it's a monthly segment we have on our show where we discuss cases of missing people, homicides, or mysterious deaths with a focus on BIPOC in North America. BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, and we focus on their stories during this dedicated segment because their voices are often overpowered by those of their white counterparts. Stories of missing and muredered white women dominate the headlines, while stories of missing and murdered black, indigenous, and poc's fall off the news cycle in a day or two. Dark Adaptation is working, like so many others are, to help shift the narrative that BIPOC cases aren't as important. Every missing perosn or homicide case is important and every case deserves an audience. Episode Description: On May 8, 1999, Nadine Gurczenski's body was discovered near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Eighth Avenue, 8 km south of Vineland, Ontario. She was face up in the ditch, wearing nothing but knee-high stockings and no attempt had been made to conceal or cover her body. Nadine was primarily living in Toronto at the time of her death, but her body was found in the Niagara Region, nearly 100 km away. If you have any information about the unsolved murder of Nadine Gurczenski, please contact the Niagara Regional Police Homicide Unit online or by phone at 905-688-4111, extension 4200. To leave an anonymous tip, contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS.

5. MMM Case #4 - Maisy Odjick & Shannon Alexander

Why this podcast?

This is another example of Missing, Murdered, Mysterious except Case #4, like many MMM cases, focuses on two missing indigenous women from a Quebec city. It's a haunting case about two teenage friends who seemingly vanished off the face of the earth and how, because they are indigenous, their cases were poorly handled. Sadly, this is a trend Canadians see too often - cases of missing and murdered indigenous people getting little to no media coverage while being mishandled by the investigating entity. Talking about cases like Maisy's and Shannon's is incredibly important because it not only keeps the stories alive but it helps break down barriers, spread awareness, and normalize the narrative that indigenous peoples stories matter in Canada, just as much as anyone else's. Episode Description: Best friends Maisy Odjick and Shannon Alexander thought their weekend together in Maniwaki, QC would be full of fun at the Friday night dance followed by teenage gossip at the local hangouts. The last thing anyone expected was that the 2 girls would vanish without a trace. Maisy Odjick has brown eyes, brown hair, and is 5 foot, 10 inches tall. Her left eyebrow, both nipples, and lower lip are pierced, and she has a scar above her right eyebrow. She went missing when she was 16 years old, so today, she is 31 years old, turning 32 in November. Shannon Alexander has brown eyes, brown hair, and is 5 foot, 9 inches tall. She has acne scarring on her face, a scar on her left knee, and pierced ears. She may have been wearing a silver necklace with a feather on it around her neck. She went missing when she was 17 years old, and today, she is 32 years old. Both girls are missing from Maniwaki, Québec. If you have any information about the disappearance or whereabouts of Maisy Odjick and Shannon Alexander, who have been missing since Saturday, September 6, or Sunday, September 7, 2008, please contact the Sûreté du Québec Provincial Police Force at 1-800-659-4264, the Director of Criminal Investigation Branch, Ontario Provincial Police, at 1‑888‑310‑1122 or (705) 329-6111 or your nearest police agency. If you want to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000
