The best podcasts to Inspire Mad Props!

share icon

Share

Who am I?

Mad Props is a podcast hosted by Chris Schnabel covering all different topics and talking with people from all walks of life. A Schnabel Studios production. I love to talk to people and hear about their journeys while also giving a platform for people to learn about people that they can't find anywhere else.

What is my podcast playlist about?

To shout out and give thanks to the podcasts that helped structure and inspire Mad Props. Every show on this list is something or someone I have listened to or interacted with to create the structure, flow, and feel of Mad Props.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The Basement Yard

Why this podcast?

What Joe and Frank have been able to build with this show is beyond amazing. I take a ton of inspiration from Frank, a personal friend of mine, and how hard he has worked to get to where he is today. Also, how Joe has been able to make such a goliath of a podcast and network from scratch is beyond amazing.

2. Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend

Why this podcast?

I believe that Conan is one of, if not the, best interviewer in the game today, if not ever. The way he can curate and control an interview and narrative while also using the ability to use his strengths to make guests, no matter how open or shut they may be, feel comfortable sharing personal stories is an artwork and truly what I try to do each episode.

After 25 years at the Late Night desk, Conan realized that the only people at his holiday party are the men and women who work for him. Over the years and despite thousands of interviews, Conan has never made a real and lasting friendship with any of his celebrity guests. So, he started a podcast to do just that. Deeper, unboundedly playful, and free from FCC regulations, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend is a weekly opportunity for Conan to hang out with the people he enjoys most and perhaps find some real friendship along the way.

3. The Bill Simmons Podcast

Why this podcast?

Bill Simmons has been able to create some of the best-sounding and most well-structured podcasts out there. I try to follow the same format that Bill has created for each show on The Ringer network. I also think Bill does a great job controlling interviews and pushing narratives when needed. The way he can have multiple guests or run the show solo and not miss a beat is truly fun to hear.

HBO and The Ringer's Bill Simmons hosts the most downloaded sports podcast of all time, with a rotating crew of celebrities, athletes, and media staples, as well as mainstays like Cousin Sal, Joe House, and a slew of other friends and family members who always happen to be suspiciously available.

4. Very Good Social Media

Why this podcast?

Zach is another personal friend of mine and to help him create and see the work he puts into this podcast week after week makes me push my own limits for my podcast. He works a very tenuous job as Social Media Director of an MLB team, then finds time to contact and create these episodes. His passion ignites my own.

5. The Sixth Man Show - Orlando Magic Podcast

Why this podcast?

I am a huge Orlando Magic fan and the Sixth Man show is a story of building with no limits. I remember when Jonathan messaged me because I was an Orlando fan on Twitter talking about his Orlando Magic show and to now see them sponsor official Magic team events is completely unreal. Jonathan and Luke are one-of-a-kind and build a truly amazing show and show that with hard work, you can build something truly great.

This is an Orlando Magic podcast hosted by Jonathan Osborne & Luke Sylvia of "The Sixth Man Show". The Sixth Man Show is a basketball podcast by fans, for fans, bringing you strong opinions, good conversation, game-by-game analysis, team news, and all things Magic basketball. This show is not affiliated with the Orlando Magic, NBA, or Bally Sports Florida.
