The best podcasts to hear interesting conversations about happy things.

Who am I?

I love learning about new things. I also feel in-depth conversations about important topics can help us make better decisions. I started my podcast because I couldn't find the info/advice I needed, and I knew I wasn't alone in my quest. (I was caring for my Mom who had advanced Alzheimer's.) It took a while, but I am proud to be half entrepreneur and half artist. I am a retired portrait photographer trying to make a business out of podcasting. I'm also a passionate caregiver to a menagerie of Golden Retrievers. I enjoy traveling, learning new things, trying new things and meeting new people. There are a lot of independent podcasts that need more ears, especially those that don't fit into a specific genre. While I enjoy my daily news pod, and many true crime pods, there are those I turn to simply because they make me happy, and that's the list I curated.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Fading Memories is a compassionate podcast for caregivers of loved ones with dementia. Host Jennifer Fink shares personal experiences and expert interviews, offering practical advice on communication, stress management, and self-care. Through heartfelt stories and a supportive community, the podcast provides solace and guidance for those navigating the complexities of dementia caregiving. Fading Memories is a beacon of hope, empowering caregivers with the understanding and strength they need on their journey.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Stories that uplift you, make you happy and put a smile on your face. Dogs, music, beer, good sleepy time stories, and an interesting way to learn about new podcasts.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The Golden Ratio Podcast

Why this podcast?

The Golden Ration podcast is created by a couple that fosters/adopt senior, medically needy Golden Retrievers. The dog stories are heartwarming, occasionally a bit graphic (medical treatments discussed), and they are told in a way that makes you love this band of miscreants as much as they do. If dogs aren't enough, they also give you some personal "flavor" with their segment titled Taste of the Keys (they live in the Florida Keys), German Word of the Week, Administrative corner, and ramblings. You'll be glad you tuned in when you have a smile on your face and the local dog rescue number on your phone.

3. Nothing much happens: bedtime stories to help you sleep

Why this podcast?

I struggle to fall asleep unless I listen to a podcast. I decided listening to true crime while falling asleep might not be the best for my psyche, and I was thrilled to find Nothing Much Happens. The host writes and reads her own stories, in which nothing much happens. I like her stories better than the sleep podcasts that read old stories that are available in the public domain. Each episode stands alone, but some link together allowing you to listen without feeling like you have to start from the beginning.

Having trouble sleeping? Join Yoga and meditation teacher Kathryn Nicolai for bedtime stories where nothing much happens to help you relax and sleep peacefully. The stories are a soft landing spot for your mind. Rather than letting your brain race through the same thoughts you’ve been chasing all day, we are taking a detour to a calm and comfy place. We tell the story twice and go a bit slower the second time.

You can find our book, "Nothing Much Happens," in over 20 languages. Request your local bookseller to shelve it: https://bit.ly/Nothing-Much-Happens

5. Trailer Park: The Podcast Trailer Podcast

Why this podcast?

If you enjoy podcasts (and you've gotten this far into this list, so you do), this is a way to learn about a new (to you show). The host analyzes a show's trailer and then shares her opinion. Each episode is dedicated to one trailer, is short, and will give you the opportunity to learn about a new show. If you're a podcaster, you can apply to be featured, or just take the advice you hear and make your own trailer better.

Welcome to the park! Trailer Park: The Podcast Trailer Podcast is a podcast that showcases podcast trailers. Whether those trailers never became fully-realized podcasts, were made as creative proof, are part of a larger body of work, or were created just for fun, they're welcome here at the park! On each episode, hosts Arielle Nissenblatt and Tim Villegas will hit 'play' on a podcast trailer. We'll then hear from the creator of that trailer. Why a trailer park? As a podcast discovery tool To help creators get their projects funded To create learning opportunities for audio creators Thank you to our season one sponsors: Ausha, Recast Studio, Focusrite's Vocaster, mowMedia, and Aug X Labs. Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
