Who am I?
My name is Dan Dissinger, one half of The Nostalgia Test Podcast. I can't get enough of the 80s and 90s when it comes to movies and music, and let's through in the early 2000s, why not! My co-host, Manny Coelho, and I are obsessed with quoting Mitch Hedberg jokes, rewatching the 80s Tom Cruise classic Cocktail, did you say Rocky Franchise (YES!!!), and we're totally against reboots of all kinds. I'm a writing professor at USC, a Poet, and Podcaster (that three P's). Manny and I have been friends for over 20 years, drove cross-country together, taken impromptu roadtrips to see our friends during college, and survived some hard party days. Manny owns an award-winning brewery (Lithology) on Long Island. If it's pop-culture, we're putting it to the ultimate test--THE NOSTALGIA TEST! My longtime friend and co-host of The Nostalgia Test Podcast have been doing this podcast way before it became an actual show. We'd be on the phone for hours just talking about the weirdness of our childhood movies and music, reminiscing about Dave Matthews Band concerts we've seen (some we don't remember), quoting Mitch Hedberg jokes to each other, and just trying to figure out why Cocktail doesn't have a better Rotten Tomatoes rating. Yet, it's not about living in the past. We're here to tell the truth and see if our pop-culture past PASSES the ULTIMATE TEST--THE NOSTALGIA TEST! It can be good still, be just nostalgic, or be absolutely terrible. We're not pulling punches. We're not playing nice. We're here for these jokes, for cursing, for yelling, for FUN!
My Show
What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?
The Nostalgia Test Podcast is about putting our pop-culture past to the ultimate test--THE NOSTALGIA TEST, to see if our favorite movies, music, food, games, vide games, TV shows, game shows, etc. pass the nostalgia test and are still good, fail the nostalgia test and are just nostalgic, or just so bad it needs to be erased from our memories. We've had our childhood friends on, directors, artists, actors, international scholars, and so many more to join the nostalgic fun. The Nostalgia Test is all about fun, making fun of ourselves and our favorite things, while trying to learn from our past. We're rated-R podcast though. Not for kids. We're gonna yell and scream and curse. It's gonna be like hanging out with your friends late into the night when everyone else has gone home and it's the tight circle now choppin it up. JPOIN US FOR THE JOURNEY!!!!
