Who am I?
Hello Fancy Folks! I am one half of a married podcast co-host duo. We are scientists (an electrical engineer and a former microbiologist) who are taking our oversized curiosity and applying it to the intersection of science and luxury. Growing up I was the little kid that always wanted to be a scientist. While my natural curiosity steered me down the road to being a scientist, I always felt a little spark of creativity and was always drawn to the arts and fashion. I felt a little out-of-place, not fully in one world or another. I choose science and have spent years researching and then supporting researchers and it has been amazing. But I've always wondered how to merge by passion for science with my passion for all things fancy, aside from wearing heels in the lab. I finally realized that I could let my curiosity lead me and discover the science behind art and luxury. It started as a blog with an article about the science behind champagne bubbles and developed into a podcast that has explored everything from gemstones to paint pigments to ceramics. I love being able to share our enthusiasm for learning new things and exploring new spaces with the audience. We choose this subject after doing a whole season on the intersection of art and science and wanting to learn even more about it. Taking a scientific lens towards art has introduced us to all the work, talent and science that goes into creating art and made us appreciate that art even more. We have gotten to talk to some amazing artists about their work and we were impressed and inspired each time.
My Show
What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?
Our podcast is a fusion of our interests in science and the artistic and luxury worlds. Each season we take a luxurious topic, such as jewelry or visual art and dive deep into the science that makes it all happen. We are firm believers that science doesn't have to be intimidating or scary. Using luxury items as an entry point into the vast world of science is a fun way to engage with serious science. We hope our audience gains a little of that wonder we all had as kids. Wonder at the amazing way that the world works and the forces underpinning everything from why champagne bubbles are different in different glasses to how sapphires get their different colors. We hope you join us on our scientific journey through all things fancy.
What is my podcast playlist about?
Our playlist is a mash-up of science and art, just like we are. You'll find engaging science stories and in-depth looks into the materials that artists use. If you're a curious person who wonders about the how and why of things and you love art, this list is for you! We hope you enjoy it!
