Who am I?

We’ve known each other since high school where we played in band together. (Hint: that was a long time ago.) Brian is a jazz musician, composer, and music professor living on the west coast. Domingos is a military musician and conductor living on the east coast. We have always enjoyed great discussions over a bottle of wine or cup of coffee; we decided to try pushing “record” and see what happened. Podcasting has given us an excuse to talk every week, which has been great for our friendship. We’re all about finding topics that spur a discussion - whether it’s about movies, the arts, philosophy, or sports - we enjoy digging into a subject and finding out why someone thinks the way they do. We enjoy listening to podcasts that provide stimulating conversation while being enjoyable to listen.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Each episode we pick a topic about music, movies, sports, or life in general and then see where the discussion takes us.

What is my podcast playlist about?

The pods on this list all center around conversation. While the subjects may vary, conversation is the centerpiece.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. SmartLess

Why this podcast?

Smartless is always a fun listen. Each episode, these three friends who work in Hollywood bring in a surprise guest to the other two friends. What ensues is an unscripted dialogue as they learn what makes the guest tick, and in so doing learn something new about each other. They do it with a sense of humor interlaced with moments of profundity.

2. The Music List

Why this podcast?

We really enjoy this podcast hosted by three siblings. Each episode they ask a music question and debate over who or what makes the list (e.g., best singer in a genre or best song by a group). They’re all knowledgeable and have great chemistry - a good recipe for a podcast.

The Music List Podcast takes a recipe for entertainment- a hotly debated musical topic, three siblings who love to argue, and open mics, and then tosses them into a mixing bowl. Shake up the bowl, and fireworks happen. The goal is to take a musical question such as greatest voice in a genre, best album during a decade, or best song by a group and create a master list to answer that question. The real battle begins when the siblings have to agree on the top five. Join Heather, Ben, and Beth, as they tackle the topics, the facts, and each other to make the definitive Music Lists.

The Bricked Pit is a podcast where hosts Jason, Josh, and Adam explore movies and pop culture, often focusing on classics from the '80s and '90s. Known for their conversational banter and comedic tangents, the trio offers in-depth analyses of films, digging into everything from practical effects to controversial directors. They aren't afraid to debate the merits of sequels (is "Dawn of the Dead" superior to "Night of the Living Dead?"), and they're not shy about expressing their distaste for excessive nostalgia in modern film.

4. Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum

Why this podcast?

Love this podcast. Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor from Smallville) interviews people from the industry in a way that digs past the surface and gets them to think introspectively, and in turn gets the listener to do the same.

I’m Michael Rosenbaum, I’ve spent the better part of the last two decades in and out of film and television - mostly known for playing the bald dude on the show Smallville. I’m the guy that you probably don’t know by name, but when you see my face you might say “oh, that guy from that thing.” I’ve befriended some of the most talented people in the business, but it wasn’t until I started inviting them into my home that I realized, I didn’t really know these people. What started as me having some fun, quickly evolved into something I’ve fallen in love with. What I’ve discovered is that all these people aren’t that different from you and me. They have the same insecurities and flaws that we all deal with every day. In a dark, yet enlightening way... I find a lot of comfort in that. I invite you all to join me while I get inside each of these fascinating people.
