Who am I?

My favorite thing in the world is telling someone new information that makes them re-evaluate their own assumptions. Wait, that's my second favorite--for a second I forgot that Reese's Cups exist. I'm a high school teacher who loves to read and be surprised at information. The best podcasts are like listening to friends tell you about the fascinating stuff they just learned.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Our society is awash in predictions about the future. Only rarely do people go back and evaluate the extent to which any of these predictions are correct. On Mistopian, we take a light hearted look at past predictions, discuss the ways they are right or wrong, but also give context as to why they were made so confidently in the first place. We seek to provide interesting facts and context about the past and their view of the future we now live in.

What is my podcast playlist about?

These are my favorite podcasts that both teaching me some new, interesting information, and have great conversational hosts I like listening to.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Mistopian

Why this podcast?

This is my podcast! Also, we generally have a tremendous amount of fun teaching each other about these subjects. Flying cars, Beanie Babies, the 15 hour work week, 2012; there is always something surprising and fun to learn about these predictions from the past.

Welcome to Mistopian, the podcast that evaluates the past’s wildly-inaccurate predictions about the future that we now live in. Join our hosts, Alex and Patrick, as they navigate the turbulent waters of history and explore the bold predictions great minds of the past made about our future. Whether it’s as optimistic as flying cars or gloomy as Big Brother, Mistopian is sure to not only get to the bottom of why these predictions were hits or misses, but also investigate why these predictions were made so confidently in the first place.

2. If Books Could Kill

Why this podcast?

Every two weeks, either Peter or Michael read a popular book that has captured the national conversation at some point in our history, then tell the other person about the insane things actually found within its pages. It's funny, informative, and likely to make you somewhat enraged by the end.

Why this podcast?

I miss this podcast. The hosts were journalists who investigated stories, and then presented them to the other host. A great, warm listen that was always fascinating. If you never listened to it, this is a great archive to go through. (It ended pretty badly, though).
