The best podcasts for learning about ourselves through TV & Film.

Who am I?

I'm a storyteller, filmmaker and podcaster who's constantly amazed by how what we like to watch can teach us so much about ourselves. During the lockdown, I needed a way to connect with folks while staying remote. So I started a podcast to just talk about movies and TV shows with people. I quickly realized that what we watch can serve as a form of therapy or self-realization. With so many movie/TV podcasts being centered around reviewing or critiquing, I wanted to make something that showcased our feelings and emotions associated with what we watch on the big and small screen.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My show, The Film Nuts Podcast, exemplifies the ways in which we connect with what we watch. That movie we saw after a close relative passed away instilled in us a new outlook on life. That show we watched when we were 10 lead us down our chosen career path. These reactions and connections are both individual and universal, and that is why I love finding out what are the things that mean the most to us.

What is my podcast playlist about?

The playlist is about how we react and interpret what we watch and what our reactions and interpretations reveals about ourselves.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. My Favorite Movie is...

Why this podcast?

Larry Fried asks his guests this one tough question that reveals a lot about each of them. Why do we love what we love? Wonderful insight, and the man has some serious pipes.

2. Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein

Why this podcast?

Not only is Brett Goldstein a talented actor and incredible writer, he's a damn good podcast host. By telling getting his guests to reflect on their lives by the movies they've seen is brilliant. What made them cry? What made them laugh? What made them...horny? Yes, all of that.

3. The Rewatchables

Why this podcast?

A solid rewatch podcast that discusses how movies hit us at a specific point in time, and argue if that effect can be ongoing. Some great jokes in here too.

5. How Did This Get Made?

Why this podcast?

Y'all. This show is laugh-out-loud funny. But instead of diving into the films that mean the most to them, they go way off the cliff to examine movies that might just be terrible and how that makes them feel. They argue, they laugh, they get in appropriate and it's all for the sake of examining how certain things in movies just hit us different.

The award-winning comedy podcast that celebrates bad movies. Comedians and actors Paul Scheer (The League), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth) break down the very best of the worst films ever made—we’re talkin’ blockbuster flops, cheesy 80s action movies, Lifetime thrillers, obscure cult classics, and if we’re honest... most Nic Cage and Jason Statham movies. Plus, sometimes they’re even joined by hilarious guests like Seth Rogen, Conan O’Brien, Amy Schumer, Nicole Byer, Nick Kroll, and Charlize Theron. And the best part? They watch these bad movies so you don’t have to! New episodes every Friday. Classic episodes re-released every Monday.
