Who am I?

Jordan Orme is a video editor that has worked with Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Nike, Amazon Prime, and many more. Hayden Hillier-Smith is a leader in online video editing with a client list that includes household names like Logan Paul and MrBeast. Together they are The Editing Podcast: a podcast for video editors by video editors…because editing is in our lives more than ever. Whether it's the latest social media star or a literal Oscar winner, Jordan and Hayden interview the editors whose timelines have changed the world. We chose this topic since hosting this show makes us feel like we are back in film school. We wanted to relive that feeling with our listeners by showing you the best educational podcasts for film professionals.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

As a podcast about editing, obviously we gravitate towards other podcasts about editing. These are some of the best of the best and they inspire us to be better filmmakers each day.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Ah yes, film school. Memories of stumbling through your first short film, taking gratuitous selfies with RED cameras, and the lingering smell of weed in the common room. There are a lot of things that remind us of film school, but perhaps the greatest sensorial feeling was the unbridled joy we all had for learning about film. Seriously, nothing makes you feel more powerful than being 18 and executing a Kuleshov effect for the first time. These podcasts recapture that film school joy. Subscribe to these shows, and your podcasting app ostensibly turns into a MFA film programme. Enjoy!

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Art of the Cut

Why this podcast?

Steve Hullfish wrote one of our favorite editing books (also called Art of the Cut) and his library of interviews is EXTENSIVE. Seriously, name a film, and there's probably an Art of the Cut interview with the editor. Hullfish has interview chops and a knack for asking the exact question that gets an editor to open up about their edit. A must listen for every editor and aspiring editor!

2. Ask An Editor

Why this podcast?

Ask an Editor is practical and bingeable advice from working editor Jesse Koepke. Since the episodes are shorter, you can play them in line at Trader Joe's or while you're unpacking the dishwasher. You could probably binge season 1 in less than 90 minutes as each episode is no more than 10 minutes long! Don't miss his episode about Bad Notes - one of our favorites!

4. The No Film School Podcast

Why this podcast?

No Film School has been a part of our filmmaking journey since we first picked up a camera and made videos in our living room. A thriving blog, YouTube channel, and podcast, No Film School has a seemingly bottomless pit of resources for both aspiring and working filmmakers. It is hard to pick a favorite interview from their podcast catalogue, but they do have a very thoughtful one with Walter Murch (!!!!) that we have listened to multiple times.
