Who am I?

Amber J Tresca of About IBD is a health advocate, writer, and speaker in the field of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and chronic illness. Amber's personal journey has shaped her passion for raising awareness and providing support to those affected by IBD and other chronic illnesses. It’s important to me that people with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and indeterminate colitis have quality, evidence-based information to make treatment decisions. To forward this aim, I work with people from all areas of the IBD trajectory: industry, patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My experiences showed me the need for patient voices and peer to peer patient education. At the end of the day, what’s important to me is doing what’s right for patients. I started About IBD Podcast almost accidentally. It has allowed me to make deeper connections with people in the IBD community. It is their stories and the conversations we have that have sustained me through what has been a challenging period in my own IBD journey.

What is my podcast playlist about?

This playlist is for patients with IBD and other chronic illnesses to learn more about how to live a better life with their condition, make connections within the digestive disease community, and get quality information that can help them become more empowered in their journey.

2. Sex & IBD

Why this podcast?

Gastro Girl covers a variety of digestive disease topics, with many episodes focused on IBD. This episode in particular focuses on sex and IBD, which tends to be a topic that gets discussed as being a thing that needs to be discussed, rather than actually discussing it! So this episode is a welcome addition to the available knowledge.

5. Colitis Conversations: Getting an Accurate Diagnosis

Why this podcast?

Self-promotion isn't my strong point, but I wanted to put this episode of my own show on this list because it is so good. I talked these two fabulous people into speaking with me and each other — and the result was magic. There are secrets spilled in this episode and I guarantee they'll help anyone who feels alone in their journey with IBD or as a care partner (health care providers included!).

Once people understand that symptoms like ongoing diarrhea and bloody stools are not normal, they need a way to overcome embarrassment and talk their symptoms over with a health care provider. Having an open and honest conversation will help ensure a quicker diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and getting the right treatment.

On this episode, Rasheed Clarke, ulcerative colitis and j-pouch patient and author of Three Tablets Twice Daily and Dr Christina Ha, an IBDologist at the IBD Center at Cedars Sinai, provide support and guidance to patients with IBD symptoms, newly diagnosed patients, and anyone who is looking for a new way to speak with their health care providers about IBD treatments.

Concepts discussed on this episode include:
