**The Bully Pulpit podcast and the Let’s Find Common Ground podcast are being merged into one program. Stand by for upcoming information and new episodes in 2025.** At the USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future, we bring together top Republicans and Democrats to transcend partisan divisions and explore solutions to our most pressing national and global challenges. Join veteran strategists Bob Shrum and Mike Murphy along with other Center staff and major voices in the Bully Pulpit for fun conversations that advance civil dialogue and practical politics. When President Theodore Roosevelt coined the phrase bully pulpit, bully meant “wonderful”; and Roosevelt, according to the Oxford Dictionary, was envisioning “an outstanding opportunity to speak out on any issue.” Hear from famous people who’ve known success and setbacks, whether they worked for Donald Trump or Barack Obama, G.W. Bush or Bill Clinton, the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. The conversations go behind the curtain with elected officials, campaign staff, journalists, academics, pundits, and political operatives. Every exchange is guided by standards central to the Center’s mission: Respect each other and respect the truth. Opponents are adversaries, not enemies. And if you lose, don’t burn down the stadium. The Bully Pulpit was formerly called Election R&D. All our podcast episodes are available at https://electionrd.libsyn.com/website. Cooking With Grief

Latest episode 2 years ago

Cooking With Grief is a podcast where two glorious morons share facts, stories and titbits they've found interesting, an internet Show & Tell. Topics range from science to history to current events, and pretty much anything else, all discussed and dissected with complete irreverence and absolutely no desire to be serious. The facts are sound, the understanding is tenuous, and the jokes - well, that's subjective. Enjoy! "A witty and unique podcast on current events and the world around us." - Chris & Chris "This is completely banal and you're wasting your time." - Our mothers "Who the hell are you and why are you talking to me?" - Random guy on the street

Quantum Field Theory with Dr. Rodeny A. Brooks

Rodney A. Brooks was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1932. He attended the University of Florida and Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D. in physics with Nobel laureate Norman Ramsey in 1963. At that time he was fortunate to learn Quantum Field Theory from its perfector, Nobel laureate Julian Schwinger, who had just published his five-paper series "The theory of quantized fields", in which matter fields are treated for the first time on an equal basis with force fields. After several years as a post-doc at Harvard, Brooks spent five years working on aerospace projects. Then in 1970 he changed to the field of medical research. This led to a 25-year career at the National Institutes of Health, where he published 124 refereed articles. Among his accomplishments was construction of the highest resolution PET scanner of its time, the "Neuro-PET". He also invented dual-energy computed tomography (US patent 4247774), a method which has now been incorporated into commercial scanners. As an amateur clarinetist he founded and led a klezmer band called Shir Delite. After moving to New Zealand when he retired, he became aware that the wonderful QFT that he had learned from Schwinger is largely forgotten or misunderstood, leaving the lay public to founder in the weirdness and paradoxes of Quantum Mechanics and Relativity. He then made it his retirement mission to tell the people about QFT - the only theory that makes sense.

The Sicario Effect is a new series from Exclave Media. Jhon Jairo Velasquez Vasquez alias “Popeye” was Pablo Escobar’s top lieutenant and The Medellin Cartel's chief sicario (assassin). He’s publicly admitted to having personally killed 300 people. In 2014, after 23 years in prison, Popeye was released. Rather than lay low and enjoy his new freedom, he took to the internet and became a social media star, “Popeye the Repentant”. And as we discovered, that’s just the beginning. This is a story about crime, drugs, corruption, and a country’s fight to control their narrative about the past, present, and future.

Unconventional

YOUNG JAMES FROST just knows, deep in his bones, that he's a writer. He writes far into early mornings, after his wearying hours of scrubbing toilets and sweeping floors. He loves writing that much. But it's not only the joy of words that keeps him grinding; it's his desire to retire the janitor's mop. He sees being published as the key to living an improved life. James has another deep-seated conviction: that he's not good enough. He secretly longs to be accepted. However, the conventional others in his life seem all too willing to remind him that he's wasting his time. Then he meets and falls in love with Leigh, the one bright spot in his endless misery of self-doubt. A quiet but resolutely religious girl, she has to fight off disapproval of her own from overly critical parents, whose insults are countered by James's often-voiced admiration of her. Likewise, Leigh's faith in his talents begins to build his confidence, eventually allowing her to introduce him to a different way to help himself: relying on God. Ultimately, James's newfound faith is sorely tested to the point of doubt when his dream to be published seems to melt into a mirage, smothered by countless rejection slips from agents and publishers. His faith is also battered by having to fight highly emotional battles and suffer fear and loss. Just when James appears hopelessly sapped by devastating events, one last door opens, and he's rocked by an epiphany. UNCONVENTIONAL is designed to inspire readers to reach for their dreams. The 7 Deadly Sins of Building a Contractor Business

11 Episodes

|

Latest episode 8 years ago

Are you "living in sin" in your contracting business? No, no, not that kind of sin. I'm talking about the kind of "sin" that gets in the way of your ability to be successful in business. A sin of mindset, of the way you think. You see, small-minded thinking will keep your small business small – or kill it outright. On the other hand, if you can master the mindset of success it will become almost impossible for you to fail! The bottom line is that the way you think about your business as a contractor determines your success far more than anything you do. After all, every action is preceded by a thought – which means the idea had to have been there before the action occurred.
