"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." How many times have you heard of a "dream job," an extraordinary athletic feat, or even a benevolent vocation that someone has and thought to yourself, "I Could NEVER Do That!" These people don't have superpowers, per se. These normal folks simply have a huge desire to do what it is they're doing and they ultimately have an unwavering faith that they can achieve their goals, no matter how big. Remember, courage isn't the absence of fear. Courage is "going in" in spite of your fears. These are the stories of people who have gone in and fought hard to achieve the unthinkable in spite of the fact that, yes, sometimes they are scared and do have some insecurities. Are you ready to go in? It's my hope that after hearing some of these interviews with thought leaders, artists, athletes, musicians and entrepreneurs that maybe you too will go from, "I Could Never Do That" to, "I Could Do That."

According to UNESCO (2023), the annual financing gap in education funding from 2023 to 2030 in low—and lower-middle-income countries is estimated at USD 97 billion. Philanthropy is an important force in the global education sector. It can be a disruptor to the structures and silos of the global education community, with different ideas, perspectives and networks. It can build bridges and it can support innovation. And often, it can fund where others can’t.

The International Education Funders Group (IEFG) is the largest global network of philanthropic actors funding education. We are all passionately engaged in
local, national and international grant-making within diverse organisations, with differing priorities and individual strategies but a shared belief in the power of education and a shared drive to improve the performance of education systems worldwide.

Third Sector’s podcast documentaries explore some of the big issues facing the charity sector and the people who work within it.

When Charity Goes Wrong

What happens when charities struggle to reckon with the regulatory and governance structures that charity law requires them to follow? And when the regulator’s decisions are called into question, what next?

Hosted by Lucinda Rouse, this three-part podcast documentary examines three charities where things went badly wrong. It questions whether their cases throw up any weaknesses in how the UK’s voluntary organisations are governed and regulated.

Featuring voices close to the action at Kids Company, the Captain Tom Foundation and Mermaids, along with legal experts and the head of the Charity Commission, the series asks what lessons the wider sector can take from each of these high-profile cases to ensure other charities avoid the same harmful pitfalls.

The End of Charity

In a world where need is spiralling out of control and new, radical forces are shaping the landscape for doing good, can charity be the answer to the world’s social and environmental problems?

Lucinda Rouse presents The End of Charity, a new podcast series from the makers of Third Sector.

Guided by some of the leading voices of the philanthropy world, as well as radicals who believe the current model is on the brink of implosion, Lucinda asks: what are the flaws and contradictions baked into the ways charities work?

How has the sector’s problematic past shaped its present?

And who are the disruptors – from MrBeast to Extinction Rebellion – who could shake it up for good?
