When Sarah watched her 23 year old daughter cycle away from her in Chelsea - a well-off corner of London - she had no idea it would be the last time they’d see each other for 6 years. What would make a loving child from a life of privilege sever ties with friends and family, and disappear?

It turns out, Sarah wasn’t alone in losing a daughter. Something strange was happening to other young women, too.

And they all had one thing in common: a kind of therapist figure - a woman they were all seeing and sharing their problems, their secrets, their fears with. But it took years for the truth of what was happening behind closed doors to emerge, and the extraordinary things this woman led them to believe.

Dangerous Memories is the story of young women who wanted to be healed that became, for us, a story about the healer, and what we risk when we let someone else into our mind, and our memory.

What does it mean to be poor, or an immigrant? What form should Aid take? This album begins to explore the complex issues of international development in a globalised world, starting with a look at schemes which attempt to alleviate poverty. Small business owners are empowered by micro-financing in Glasgow, while in Argentina a disastrous economic collapse has led to people taking matters into their own hands by creating an alternative social exchange currency. Migrant communities, such as Greek Cypriots and Ethiopians in London, and Sierra Leoneans in Liverpool, have a chance to reveal the issues they’ve faced; while in the audio tracks we hear from experts who are working to expand the contribution that African migrants abroad can make to Africa’s development. Finally, a Chinese "beer pioneer" and China trade experts discuss China’s membership of the World Trade Organisation. To complete the album, Dr Helen Yanacopulos of The Open University's Development Policy and Practice unit explains the choice of some of the case studies, and unpicks some of the issues that emerge. This material is taken from The Open University course TU871 Development: context and practice.

The infamous Whitechapel murders, retold.

Everyone knows the story of Jack the Ripper, the chilling serial killer that haunted the streets of 19th century London. Now, 135 years later, there’s a new killer in town.

In this darkly comic reimagining, men are the victims of sexually aggressive murders committed by a woman: the mysterious Jackie. The only obstacle standing in her way? The slightly clueless, extremely over-caffeinated Detective Abberline and his not-so-crack team at the City of London Police.

This is a laugh-out-loud, gruesome, thrilling comedy drama that will have you in bits – and might take your bits too.

Smokingroove, originally comprising of brothers Monsafe & Marko, cut their teeth on the mid 90s London underground pirate radio scene at legendary stations including Freek FM, Unknown, House FM and quickly built a name for themselves on dancefloors across the city with their own brand of bumping Chicago-fused house music. As two wise chemically-enhanced men once said, ‘The brothers gonna work it out’ and it’s an adage that the two took to heart as they became one of the most in-demand production and DJ duos around. With over 160 releases over the last two decades, they’ve proven their ability to maintain a position in the international DJ scene. When Marko moved to Dubai in 2007, Monsafe carried on playing across Europe while Marko solidified a new base in the Middle East with the launch of a then-new 5000 capacity venue that could be seen from Space named ‘Nasimi beach’ at the Atlantis hotel on the Palm. Not only did they turn a once unremarkable patch of sand into a consistently sold-out clubbing location thanks to a sound-storm of beats and bass, they were instrumental in musically setting up all the 16,000+ capacity Sandance events and played alongside (and often closed for) Faithless, Florence & the machine, Jamiroquai, David Guetta, Avicii, Fatboy Slim, Chic, Frankie Knuckles, Steve Lawler, Roger Sanchez, Derrick Carter, Armand Van-Helden, Basement Jaxx and many, many more. Smokingroove have since won just about every award in the region and have become a name representing great music on a global scale. Alongside that, Smokingroove opened at the recent 'Unite with Tomorrowland', had multiple appearances at Creamfields, toured Europe and have built up a long-standing reputation for great underground music. In 2018 Smokingroove became the Music Curator for the popular global brand, W Hotel with a new location on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. The weekly radio show is currently syndicated to over 40 radio stations around the world with a weekly listenership in over 60 countries and sees the duo going back to their roots, making people dance around the world to their own flavour of what’s hot in the underground House music scene.

DETECTIVES. THIEVES. TIME-TRAVELLERS. (REASONABLE RATES.) 'Somewhere in this city, there's a hole in history, in reality itself, and it's getting bigger. I'm the only detective in town who keeps an eye on what crawls through.' Kilbey Salmon has charm, a quick gob and an instinct for self-preservation. Nero Dusk has a lot of patience, a grumpy demeanour and a way with his fists. Theo Cartwright is an Australian journalist who often wonders why she spends time with either of them. In their time-travelling London cab, they scrape together a living finding things that never existed and solving crimes that never happened for people desperate enough to seek their help. Mostly, they get themselves in trouble. And when there's trouble for Salmon & Dusk, it's the strangest sort of trouble London has ever seen. For a start, there's the artist whose paintings are taking on a life of their own, there's the client wanting to solve his own murder, there's the ex-convict and his misplaced loot, and there's a sociopathic vegan hunting a stopwatch that can wind back history itself.

We’d like to introduce you to a new podcast. It’s called Different. But why different?

You know how when you’re wearing sunglasses it puts a tint on everything? Or if you wear glasses you see some things in focus and others out of focus?

Well, we all have lenses on the inside of our head too. And they tint, colour and shape everything we see, think and understand.

So, on this podcast Steve Chalke and Jill Rowe are going to dive headlong into just that as they discover a new ‘meaning making’ story and embrace a fresh way of thinking about life, the universe and everything in-between.

They will talk about getting to a place where we see our lives as part of something bigger than our day-to-day experience - becoming a part of an unfolding story. Finding joy in ordinary moments, facing failure and struggle and discovering liberation and purpose.

They’ll also discuss experiencing life as a gift and learning how to live on purpose. They’ll be peering into dark nights of the soul and finding hope. And simply learning how we are here to walk each home.

We hope you enjoy these conversations – discovering a new story and embracing new thinking.

This podcast is powered by Oasis. Edited and mixed by Matteo Magariello. Produced by Peter Kerwood.
