So hair is sprouting in unspeakable places and you can no longer carry a tune, but if you’re a surrealistic artiste with an addiction to Freudian mythology and guilt-free sex, turning into a monkey has its upsides. Nick Motbot may be evolving as a novelist, but his friends aren’t too sure about his DNA — at least, not since Gargantuan Enterprises started experimenting with it. And once they figure out what’s happening to him, they decide to set things right. MARVELLOUS HAIRY is a satirical novel about a group of friends sticking it to the man the only way they know how, with equal parts grain alcohol and applied Chaos Theory. Part literary fun-ride, part fabulist satire, and part slapstick comedy, MARVELLOUS HAIRY is about the power of friendship and love, the evils of power, and the dangers of letting corrupt CEOs run our world. And most importantly, it’s about how we have to release our fun-loving inner monkeys.

A Brief Conversation with My Hair is a collection of short literary humor pieces that have been previously featured on such websites at McSweeney's, Yankee Pot Roast, The Big Jewel, Opium Magazine, and The Science Creative Quarterly. Some of the titles (which may give you an idea of the content) are: "The Calls of Cthulu", "All I Need to Learn, I Learned From Kindergarten Cop", "Diary of a Grocery Cart", "Dionysus: Party Clown", and "A Brief Conversation with My Hair". The forty-plus pieces in this collection find the bizarre in the everyday or some bit of the everyday in the already bizarre. If you ever wondered if Allen Ginsburg could have put his considerable talent to writing pay-per-click ads or how Calvin and Hobbes may have responded to reading Hemingway, you will find the answers here.

Welcome to On Cue Chris Costello. My Dad, Lou Costello, of the popular comedy team Abbott and Costello, was not only a comic, but a humanitarian who loved helping people. He was a sincere advocate when it came to helping others, and to be there for people who wanted to make a positive difference in our world. I guess you might say, his passion has been passed on to me. I invite you to come and listen, as I talk with people who are making an imprint in our world. People such as Elizabeth Beisel, a 3x Olympian and 2x Olympic medalist who is paying it forward; Francis Gary Powers Jr., the son of U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers whose U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960, and so many others. We have some amazing people, all sharing their equally amazing stories. Please join me on, On Cue Chris Costello http://chrisoncue.buzzsprout.com

The Munster Literature Centre is a grateful recipient of funding from the Arts Council of Ireland and the Arts Office of Cork City Council.

This unit considers some of the different ways of reading Great Expectations, based on the type of genre the book belongs to. This is one of the most familiar and fundamental ways of approaching literary texts. The novel broadens the scope of study of a realist novel, in both literary and historical terms. The unit includes extracts from critical writings, which are discussed in detail. This study unit is just one of many that can be found on LearningSpace, part of OpenLearn, a collection of open educational resources from The Open University. Published in ePub 2.0.1 format, some feature such as audio, video and linked PDF are not supported by all ePub readers.
