Kev and Randy take to the mics once a week to talk about a song from the catalogue of the enigmatic, brilliant, and sometimes flawed rock legends Queen. Each week a song will be chosen at random so that the boys won't know what track they'll be reviewing. Kev comes into the podcast as a Queen afficionado, while Randy is a more casual fan, but has a huge wealth of knowledge about recording, performing, and music in general. At the end of each episode, both will either upvote or downvote the song and we'll take to social media to see what the listeners think!

Mark Ellen and David Hepworth have been talking about and writing about music together and individually for a collective eighty years in magazines like Smash Hits, Mojo and The Word and on radio and TV programmes like "Rock On", "Whistle Test" and VH-1.

Over thirteen years ago, when working on the late magazine The Word, they began producing podcasts. Some listeners have been kind enough to say these have been very special to them. When the magazine folded in 2012 they kept the spirit of those podcasts alive in regular Word In Your Ear evenings in which they spoke to musicians and authors in front of an audience.

Over these years they've produced hundreds of hours of material. As of the Current Unpleasantness of 2020, they've produced yet hundreds of hours more with a little help from guests kind enough to digitally show them around their attics such as Danny Baker, Andy Partridge, Sir Tim Rice and Mark Lewisohn. For the full span of the Word In Your Ear world, visit wiyelondon.com.

The Erie Music History (EMH) podcast focuses on interviews with local musicians who actively played out in venues in and around Erie, PA in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Its purpose is to highlight some of the vast musical talent that Erie had to offer during this time and to allow the musicians to share their stories of playing back then. Hosted by local musician Chip Schell, the author of “9 Years Of Rock: The Story Of The Concerts At The Erie County Fieldhouse,” the EMH podcast does not cover the current Erie music scene. The choice of guest also does not imply some type of ranking of who was better or more important during this period; Chip simply chooses guests based on who he wants to interview. His goal is to include musicians who played covers and originals in a variety of styles (e.g., rock, punk, country).

Access All Areas is an often-hilarious insight to life behind the scenes of the Australian Music industry from the 80's & 90's onwards. Award winning Director Editor Maurice Todman and long time business partner and Producer, the wonderful and exuberant Jo Cadman were a popular Australian Music Video Producer Director team in the 90’s. Between them, these two made a ton of music video’s, mixed it with the famous, met amazing and talented people, travelled the country and the world and hold a thousand stories. There are iconic rock and pop stars, even more iconic videos that will have you wonder how these two bogans from the burbs got to hang out in the 90's with some of the most iconic music stars in the world! It’s raw, real, funny, riveting, sometimes revealing and very, very retro......darling!

COMING MARCH 21, 2021 - A multi-episode podcast about the weird and wonderful world of (mostly) electronic organ music, with a focus on the obscure and overlooked (Ernesto Olvera, Kay Armstrong, Cherry Wainer, Anton LaVey, Mamman Sani, etc), as well as more known artists such as Korla Pandit, Jimmy Smith, Timmy Thomas, Ethel Smith, and Jackie Mitoo. Things may occasionally get hypnotic and melty with a bit of tape manipulation and live keys mixed in, but mostly we will let these great artists speak for themselves. Your host is New Orleans organist / inventor, Quintron. He will share his vast organ music collection with you, playing full songs and sides with a bit of chatter an in between. He will also address questions from the live stream audience. There may be occasional guests, but this is primarily a single-host show with zero screeching, joke-cracking (unless they are "big organ" jokes), or politics. For the right person, this could be a nice podcast for bedtime. Sleep with Quintron! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vintage organ drawing by Stef, 1983, E&MM, courtesy of mu:zines

Called “one of the greatest poets that ever lived” by Neil Young, singer-songwriter Phil Ochs has been sitting in the footnotes of musical history for the past half century. So, why make a podcast about a musician buried in relative obscurity since his untimely death in 1976? Simple. His songs could have been written a week ago. From his days as a “singing journalist” in the early sixties, to the experimental baroque-pop of “Pleasures of the Harbor”, to the seventies’ gold suit (a la Elvis Presley) rock & roll era, Phil bled into his music. Listen as we explore his music and its continued relevance, and ride the rollercoaster that is Phil’s life story, packed with drama, turmoil, and intrigue, about the troubadour who tried to be a star.

"I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, one of the best underground music scenes in the world. I got into the underground metal scene in the early eighties and found punk a few years later. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, punk has been one of the biggest influences of my life ever since. I've been in a few bands and toured every chance I got. I've been a booker at a few clubs and even owned a couple. With my background, I was excited to see my niece and nephew get into punk. I was also a little worried, but they are smarter than me so have avoided making the same mistakes. It made me wonder what, after almost 50 years, still attracts people to the subculture. Also, what keeps people involved into their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond. Charlie Harper is in his 70’s and has been touring since 1976. I’ll be talking to bands from around the world, and also people who keep punk alive behind the scenes. I’ll be asking them what attracted them to punk in the first place and what keeps them around for decades. I’m looking forward to the conversations, because sometimes I can't even answer it for myself. Beware, there will be a lot of talk about Portland. I moved to Amsterdam a few years ago and miss Portland every day, so I love to hear stories about it. Also, as much as I hate some things about it, it is one of the best cities on earth. Also beware, these are real stories- well, most of them are. They will contain tales of alcohol, drugs, sex and extreme violence and language that Mary Whitehouse would not approve of. Take caution and thank you listening, I appreciate each and every one of you." Written and Hosted by Tony Mengis Produced & Edited by Chelsea Clyde Mixed and Mastered by Joe Mengis

Bing Crosby's Radio Christmas Specials: A Yuletide Tradition Born on the Airwaves In the annals of Christmas lore, few figures hold a place as warm and enduring as Bing Crosby. His velvety voice, synonymous with holiday cheer, resonated far beyond the silver screen, gracing radio waves for decades with a beloved tradition: Bing Crosby's Radio Christmas Specials. From 1944 to 1962, Crosby transformed the living rooms of America into cozy havens with his hour-long specials on Christmas Eve. Broadcast on the prestigious Kraft Music Hall, these radio gems weren't just about music; they were an immersive experience, weaving together carols, celebrity guests, heartwarming stories, and Crosby's signature charm. The Birth of a Tradition: The first special in 1944 was a serendipitous accident. Crosby, recovering from a throat injury, could only manage a few songs. But the impromptu mix of music and spoken word resonated with listeners, sparking a Christmas Eve tradition that would last for nearly two decades. A Star-Studded Stage: Crosby wasn't alone in his yuletide revelry. Each year, he invited a dazzling array of stars to join him on the airwaves. Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, Louis Armstrong, and countless others lent their voices to the merriment, creating a musical tapestry that reflected the diversity of American Christmas celebrations. Beyond the Music: The specials weren't just about crooning carols. Crosby's storytelling prowess shone through as he narrated whimsical tales of talking snowmen, mischievous elves, and the true meaning of Christmas. These stories, often penned by the likes of Norman Rockwell and Frank Capra, resonated with listeners young and old, reminding them of the magic and wonder of the season. A Legacy of Warmth and Cheer: Crosby's Radio Christmas Specials transcended the limitations of radio. They became a cultural touchstone, a shared experience that brought families together around the airwaves. Even after their official run ended, their spirit lived on in countless reruns, compilations, and even a televised adaptation. Today, echoes of Crosby's radio Christmas specials can be heard in holiday music playlists, classic movie references, and the nostalgic glow that surrounds the season. His voice, forever intertwined with Christmas, serves as a reminder of the simple joys, the shared laughter, and the enduring power of tradition that make the holidays so special. So, as you gather around the fire this Christmas Eve, tune in to the echoes of Bing Crosby's radio specials. Let his warm voice fill your home, transport you back to a simpler time, and remind you of the true meaning of the season: love, joy, and the magic of sharing it with those we hold dear. Thanks for listening to Quiet Please. remember to like and share wherever you get your podcasts.

PLUS: music news, concert reviews, et cetera, et cetera (second Radiohead reference for posterity). If something rocks, it WILL be on 10/10 You're Great and it WILL NOT be explained concisely.

Ну что, all aboard!
