The best podcasts for TTRPG fans that want more than DND

Who am I?

I am Brian voice actor and PR person for Dork Day Afternoon. Father of 3 and Husband of 1. Chaotic good player and all around mess of a human being. I love diving into new games and telling great stories. This community and hobby has become a huge outlet for me and I hope it can be a benefit to many others. I have been playing TTRPGs for decades now and have found that many players get caught in runts afraid to branch out into different systems and different worlds. There are so many great games out there it seems an injustice to ones self to not explore further into the deepest depths of the hobby.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Two Past Midnight is a dark and gritty story set in the aftermath of world war three. A group of survivors must try and find a way to over come the harsh realities of a new world torn apart by war. Fighting to make it through starvation the elements and the ever present danger of their fellow man. An actual play with a hint of old school radio drama. We use the Twilight:2000 4E by Free League Publishing to tell our story.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I want to highlight those TTRPG podcast that are taking a step away from the main stream. That are creating content that is cutting new paths and exploring new worlds. I want to show case those that are shedding new light on great TTRPG games and creators.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The AARPG Podcast

Why this podcast?

These “gentlemen” are seasoned veterans in the TTRPG community. They play many systems such as Alien, Twilight:2000, and Mothership just to name a few. Otis always in their own style and these guys are truly original. They prove with every outing that you are NEVER TO OLD TO ROLL!

An actual play TTRPG podcast that is done by professionals who—wait, this says UNprofessionals. Hmm. Well, it’s a podcast I suppose. It is done by some monsters, and they roll dice. And it also thinks its an old timey radio show!

A repo group in a corporate fantasy setting using pathfinder rules with some homebrew modifications. Think snow crash but with magic involved. We will be doing a bunch of small stories in the setting with different players.

Pink Fohawk is an ENnie-Nominated actual play podcast set in the Shadowrun universe, following two rad shadowrunners making names for themselves in the streets of Seattle in the year 2053. Content Warning: Pink Fohawk is a crass, vulgar, violent, and raunchy podcast full of 80s edginess that is meant for immature adult audiences only.
