Who am I?

I'm the host of the "I'm In Love With That Song" Podcast, where each episode, we explore a different song, listening to all the parts & elements that make it such a great song. I’m on a journey to discover what makes my favorite songs work so well; what does it take to make a good song great? Join me & we’ll find out together. I’m not an expert, a professional or any kind of virtuoso; just a guy who takes his rock & roll seriously and loves talkin’ music. Hope you find something to enjoy in these podcasts. I’ve been devouring music since before I picked up a guitar, and consider myself a fan first. I’ve got thousands of CD’s and albums, a library of books on rock music, a collection of music-related DVD’s, and over 20 guitars. And once I discovered there was such a thing as rock ‘n’ roll podcasts, I became an avid listener. After a year or two of listening to these great podcasts, I decided to start my own. So here we are.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Each episode of the “I’m In Love With That Song” Podcast, we’ll take one of my favorite songs and dive deep into it, listening to all the nuances that make it a great song. You may be unfamiliar with some of these songs, while others you’ve probably heard a hundred times, but I bet if we listen closely, we can discover something new. Of course, there’s no definitive answer to what makes a song great—beauty is in the ear of the beholder—these are just my personal favorites, but I hope you love these songs, too. If you’d like to listen to the show on a regular basis, then you should follow the show — that way, you’ll never miss an episode.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Each episode, we uncover the history of a particular song, then look at all the components of the song-- the performances, the arrangements and the production. We'll isolate individual tracks and listen to just the drums, or just the lead vocal, etc. It's all about discovering the elements that go into making a great song.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. ROCK AND/OR ROLL

Why this podcast?

The host of the Rock And/Or Roll Podcast, Brian Kramp, has an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music, and has an impressive record collection to go along with it. Each episode, he draws on that knowledge to present the histories of little-known bands, work thru the catalog of specific artists, interview his favorite musicians, and assemble fun & fascinating lists of songs (for example, "The 1st Song On Side 2"). I learn something new from every episode.

2. The Hustle

Why this podcast?

Host Jon Lamoreaux has interviewed hundreds of musicians & producers on his show; some are Big Names, but some of the most interesting discussions are the ones he's had with one-hit wonders and artists who've long since been out of the spotlight. Jon is an engaging, informed, passionate and non-pretentious interviewer who always draws great conversations out of his guests.
