The best podcasts for Supporting indie Actual Plays

share icon

Share

Who am I?

Passionate about playing all sorts of games, but especially the ttrpg Bunkers & Badasses for our actual play, Friend and Foe Adventure Co. I’m no expert, but I love listening to indie ttrpg actual plays and supporting them. As I’ve done my actual play I’ve gotten to know a good number of other indie shows and wanted to share a couple. These aren’t listed in any particular order. They’re all great!

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

We’re an indie actual play podcast that plays in a homebrew world of Borderlands Bunkers & Badasses. Mayhem, comedy, action, and mayhem! Four Vault Hunters doing jobs for an adventure company. Luck is not in their side.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I wanna share more indie actual plays so you can hear a variety and maybe find some new, interesting stories and folks to listen to.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Halfwits & Failed Crits

Why this podcast?

I have really enjoyed listening to Halfwits & Failed Crits. The game master does and excellent job telling the story, setting the scene, and giving players time to shine. The players have a great dynamic and have fun characters! It’s awesome to hear them using the Stars Without Numbers system.

Halfwits & Failed Crits is an Actual Play Podcast where the players' blundering choices and cursed dice are the real big bad evil standing in the way of getting to the end of a campaign!
Listen to our adventure averse journalists in a cozy fantasy called The Parable Infused Tribune. Played with PenultiMyth, a game of our own design!
Or dive into our back catalog to experience our award nominated sci-fi epic about destiny confused space kids in Children of the Spine. Played with Stars Without Number, by Kevin Crawford.

2. Big Campaign Stories

Why this podcast?

Jeph has built up to this world in a series of campaigns that have lead to this podcast. Because of this, the world they’re playing in feels full of life. There’s interesting stories in it and cool characters. A really cool homebrewed pathfinder game with awesome cyberpunk/Sci-fi type stuff.

An exciting story, a great cast, and a GM that weaves an excellent story. You couldn’t ask for more. Theirs some awesome NPCs and plenty of intense scenes while also making you laugh. A Pathfinder 1E actual play that is a great listen.

4. The Billowing Hilltop - A D&D Podcast

Why this podcast?

This group has playing games together for a long time and you can tell. Their back and forth is great. They’re playing through an older Dungeons & Dragons adventure that I hadn't heard before.

You may notice a common theme here… great cast! I’m not very far in this one yet, but it has been an awesome listen with plenty of intense moments so far. It’s fun to hear such an awesome Monster of the Week actual play.
