The best podcasts for Space history, science, and news!

Who am I?

In 2017 I started The Space Shot, a daily space history, news, and pop culture podcast. Since that first season, I've scaled back the frequency of episodes, but my love of aerospace history, news, and pop culture remains. I'm also lucky enough to volunteer at the Cosmosphere, a Smithsonian-Affiliate museum in Hutchinson, Kansas. My work there includes hosting and editing their podcast and creating social media posts covering space history. Check out the Cosmosphere Podcast as well! I'm a lifelong space nerd who was lucky enough to have a few professors let me dive into space history when I was working on my BA. After college, I kept reading on the subject and that's when I figured I should start my own show. The Space Shot has changed its format over the years. I started off with a daily podcast for the first season. Yes, 365 days and 365 episodes. After that, I've begun to focus more on interview episodes with people in the space industry. I stepped back over the past few years due to some big life events, but I'm back at it in 2023.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My podcast covers space history, science, policy, and pop culture. The shows in this playlist (plus a ton not included here) help keep me up to date for my own show. The space industry is so big that it is hard to keep track of sometimes. It's hard to fit my podcast into one or two categories too. iTunes doesn't give the most flexible of topics, but I like to think that The Space Shot offers a fun mix of history, science, and pop culture. Plus there are a ton of episodes in the back catalogue that are fun to listen to! I find myself having to research things I forget about space and I often see my episodes popping up in search results haha.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Spaaaaace! I love space history, science, and policy. I listen to a variety of shows that help keep me up to date with what's going on in the industry. Now, more than ever, it's hard to keep up with all of the incredible missions that seem to launch on a near-weekly basis. We are living in the golden age of space exploration, these shows will give you a look at the industry as a whole, from the people to the businesses, and the governments that are exploring our place in our solar system and the universe! I wish there was room for a few more recommendations, so let me know if you've got questions or would like some more recommendations!

Last but not least, Astronomy Cast! Fraser and Pamela have been podcasting as long as I've listened to podcasts. No joke. I think I had my 1st gen iPod Nano when I first caught these episodes. I enjoy their coverage of space science topics, exploration, and more. There are 687 episodes as of July 2023, so there's something for everyone with a massive back catalog of shows.
