The best podcasts for people who love Scotland.

Who am I?

I'm a regular guy who loves creating podcasts that force me (and my listeners) to expand our horizons and really learn something. For most of my life, I thought I was Irish. Very Irish. It was basically the basis of my entire family's identity. Then, I took a DNA test and found out I was barely Irish at all, but I *was* 63 Percent Scottish. Big shock! I know almost nothing about Scotland and decided that I'd chronicle my random discussions with Scottish people about everything from football and whisky to politics and film.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My podcast - 63 Percent Scottish - is an attempt to play catch-up on all things Scottish after half a lifetime of not realizing I was Scottish. It covers an eclectic collection of information that will all help listeners better understand Scottish history, culture and society. Along the path of understanding Scotland better, I've come across some FANTASTIC podcasts that I'd recommend to anyone looking to take a deeper dive.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Gaining a greater appreciation of the depth and breadth of Scottish history, culture and society. There's a lot to love.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The Scottish History Podcast

Why this podcast?

My first stop in learning about Scotland was to learn about its history. The host of this show Owen Innes - who has been a guest on 63 Percent Scottish - is a master of producing short, informative and engaging episodes about every era in Scotland's exciting and harrowing history.

2. Scran

Why this podcast?

Food is a massively underrated part of culture. Yes, it's hard to understand food culture without, you know, eating the food, but Scran does it. Host Rosalind Erskine - a guest on 63 Percent Scottish - talks to chefs, journalist and celebrities, and reviews whisky and food from across Scotland. Excellent show.

4. Thistle Do Nicely

Why this podcast?

The Thistle Do Nicely podcast is on an extended hiatus (it's over, maybe?) but it's also an incredible window into Scottish culture. The three hosts are Scots who live in the United States and reflect on their own Scottishness while tackling subjects from whisky to Bonnie Prince Charlie. They're also hilarious.
