Who am I?

Micah is Co-Director/Creator/Producer and voice of Micah on How it Ends. Micah is a writer, TTRPG game master, and Co-Director of How it Ends. Most days, Micah can be found in their studio, hanging out with cats and planning how to TPK her players during an upcoming D&D session. Once, someone told Micah they were the personification of an arrow. Micah’s Sagittarius moon loved that; their Virgo sun said, so you’re saying I’m direct? I love spooky stories, mysteries, and anything that sends a chill down my spine. The best horror is clever horror and/or stories with an underlying message.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

How it Ends is a biweekly mystery audio drama that intertwines grief, dreams, secrets, memory, and mystery. -- Micah Jones starts a podcast to put her nightmares to rest but accidentally uncovers something much darker. Something she was never meant to find. On an ordinary evening in November 1993, Micah’s entire world collapsed when her father, Nolan, died in a car accident. Time passed, and Micah suffered from terrifying night terrors and a mysterious recurring dream that left her exhausted and on edge. How it Ends was meant to free her from her nightmares and help her deal with her loss… but Micah's world changes once again when she receives new information about her father’s accident from an unexpected source… And she discovers that sometimes dreams aren’t dreams at all—they’re memories.

What is my podcast playlist about?

The playlist comprises episodes from mystery and horror podcasts I think everyone should listen to. Some are anthologies, some are serial. Either way, I think they're excellent.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. NIGHTLIGHT: A Horror Fiction Podcast

Why this podcast?

NIGHTLIGHT features horror stories from Black writers and performed by Black actors. BIPOC writers are underrepresented in an incredibly popular genre, and Tonia Ransom is a boss who is ready to tackle that head-on. The stories are excellent, and the performances are great. I'm not sure what more convincing you'd need?

3. Motel Americana

Why this podcast?

This sci-fi horror podcast chronicles the writing of a teenager from New Jersey in the 1980s who lived at a motel. I am Jersey-born and bred; we are the originators of all things Weird and own it. This podcast is short, sadly, with no new episodes since 2020, but it's worth your time just the same.

4. Parkdale Haunt

Why this podcast?

Horror fiction written by women hits different. For me, it just does. Do not miss this show. The angle that the show is told from, the sound design, a "semi-disappearance" at the center of the story-I say semi, because well... you'll have to listen. There is so much to like about this show. Don't miss it.

5. Hello From The Hallowoods

Why this podcast?

For similar reasons to NIGHTLIGHT and Parkdale Haunt, and the fact that it's a high-quality show, queer rep in Horror is also important to me. Hello from the Hallowoods is excellent. I am particularly partial to the music in this show as well.
