The best podcasts for Mental health boosters

Who am I?

I’m a writer and education professor who sees mental health care as central to living a full life in community! When our cousin, also a teacher, died by suicide and I suffered a serious health setback, I had to face a very real truth: the inherent lack for care that too many teachers suffer from. But how to be proactive about going after that much needed mental health care? Podcasts were a start!

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My writer sister and I created our podcast — Reframeables — two years ago. We interview artists, authors and thinkers who help us to reframe life’s big and small challenges — always offering us new perspectives (we all need those!). Many of our guests speak explicitly to mental health struggles and strategies, while others find their care more implicitly connected to their larger life stories. But the truth is that care and community are necessary for us all.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Each of these podcast episodes speak to care, community and mental health is some way…not always obviously so but they’re in there — trust me!

“Let’s just say that I’ve been in a mood the past few days. The “I only want to do the bare minimum” mood. “Whatever is not mission critical gets put on the back burner” kind of mood. Have I eaten? Yes. Have I showered? Yes. Have I communicated on some level with some people so they know I’m alive? Yes. But other than that, I gave myself permission to just BE.”

In the same mood as this episode? Check out the amazing podcast, Terrible, Thanks For Asking with Nora McInerny.

P.S. You’re doing great!

This week, we're reframing wellness with Princess Owens, otherwise known as Multiple Mom — a family wellness coach who has a lot to say about reframing wellness for moms, for Black women, and for children. She gives insights into the origins of Pilates, her business Be Well Zara, and how she opted for community over fashion.
