The best podcasts for handling a 30-60 minute commute

share icon

Share

Who am I?

Family father of three. Born in the UK but have lived in Austria for over half my life. Enjoy podcasts while cooking, commuting and chilling. My commute to the office takes around 30 minutes. Rather than doomscrolling through social media, I enjoy podcasts.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I like to unwind on my commute home and usually need about 35-40 minutes door-to-door, so have chosen podcasts that will fill my commute nicely.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Decades From Home - A Podcast About Germany

Why this podcast?

I listen to this often while cooking on a Saturday evening (it drops on a Saturday). I can identify with it as Bavaria is just the other side of the German border, and living in Austria I can also identify with a lot of the similarities across the German-speaking world. I've been listening since late 2021 - and enjoy the show. There is a 2022 episode with Derek Rae that is very special - really interesting.

3. The Sweeper - A World Football Podcast

Why this podcast?

Quirkier than Lee's other podcast, The Other Bundesliga, but a great listen as it focuses on a lot of the lesser footballing nations in Europe.

The Sweeper is a football podcast unlike any other. Once a week, journalists Lee Wingate and Paul Watson bring you unique and quirky football headlines and stories from across Europe and the wider world that you won’t hear elsewhere. Whether it’s San Marino’s 20-year winless run, Greenland’s week-long season or the two-team league in the Scilly Isles, The Sweeper does not focus on Europe’s top five leagues - but instead casts its net across FIFA’s 211 members and beyond. Join us for a whistle-stop tour of the football world every Wednesday. Episodes are released at midnight CET.

4. The Missing Cryptoqueen

Why this podcast?

One that I have relistened to time and time again, and which there will hopefully be more episodes of. The story is engaging, slightly crazy and Jamie and Georgia weave a great Podcast.

Why this podcast?

This was a staple during lockdowns and there are a lot of parenting tips to take away for the post-Covid era. Some really interesting guests - including Will Champion from Coldplay.

James Millar and Ian Dinwiddy are recording a weekly ‘show’ exploring the impact of lockdown, self isolation and social distancing on working dads. We’ll share tips, thoughts and stories with special guests, discuss our hopes for the future and the opportunities that all this represents, especially for dads who want to be more active and involved fathers but who until now have struggled with the expectations of what it means to be a man in the workplace.:https://www.inspiringdads.co.uk/lockdown-dads
