Who am I?

I am an intentional living and mindfulness coach, certified personal trainer, former educator, and serial overthinker. I am also the host of The Mindful Midlife Crisis, a podcast for people navigating the complexities and possibilities of life’s second half. I spent 21 years as an educator but experienced burnout due to budding mental health concerns, social media harassment from students, and a lack of job satisfaction. In 2021, I left my job as dean of students in order to travel the world in search of meaningful experiences and community. Since then, I've been a GPS for those seeking purpose and passion by helping them identify strengths, explore curiosities, synergize with their crew, and cultivate consistency, discipline, patience, and self-compassion. Even though I'm a coach, I get in my own way all the time due to anxiety and over-thinking, so I turn to people who have been there before who know how to navigate the road to purpose through consistency, discipline, patience, and self-compassion.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

The purpose of this show is to help you navigate the complexities and possibilities of life’s second half using my no BS GPS guide to finding more purpose and passion in your life because I am sick and tired of people telling you to “follow your passions” because that is complete and utter nonsense. Purpose and passion are destinations, not starting points. So, if you need some direction in getting to that place in your life, join the Mindful Midlife Community at www.mindfulmidlifecrisis.com and get my free six-step roadmap to living your life with more purpose and passion. I also share how practicing intentional and mindful living over the last ten years has helped me navigate the trials, tribulations, and successes of my own midlife crisis. Being more intentional and mindful has helped me process my ruminating thoughts, anxiety, and stress in a much healthier way by reducing my emotional reactivity and impulsive behavior, which in turn has helped me improve my relationships and communication with others as well as be more consistent, disciplined, patient, and productive in meeting my goals.

What is my podcast playlist about?

People often say to me, “Billy, you seem way too high-strung to be a mindfulness coach.” Which is true. I am not your average mindfulness coach sipping green tea and meditating on a mountain. I’m high-anxiety, high intensity, and high energy, but I practice mindfulness so I can be at this level of obnoxious because if I didn’t I would be an out of control asshole. But these are the same skills, strategies, and resources I use in my personal life based on years of research and experimentation to find a bit more calm amidst the chaos.

Wasn’t it just a couple years ago you were sitting on the beach at spring break in Ft. Lauderdale – listening to the Pet Shop Boys, U2, and Def Leppard - with your entire life ahead of you? Now you’re looking back 30 plus years and wondering what the hell happened. Not that it’s been all bad. Of course, there’ve been highs and lows. And today, everything’s fine. It’s just fine. Like, there must be something more. And you don’t know what to do about it. Welcome to Fine is a 4-Letter Word, with host Lori Saitz. Each week, you'll hear inspiring stories of self-discovery and courage from people who have said F*ck Being Fine and have transformed their lives and businesses.
