The best podcasts for fiction about Artificial Intelligence.

Who am I?

I am the person behind Alien Ghost Robot Creative Media, creator of the fiction podcasts The Book of Constellations and The Love Talker, and the audio drama discussion podcast The First Episode Of. I've been keeping an ear on the indie audio drama scene for a couple of years now and like to share what I've found. A.I. is a timely topic for us, between Chat GPT and AI Art and the strikes in Hollywood, I think it's important to sometimes turn to fiction for thoughtful entertainment about the topic.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

A down-to-Earth sci-fi road trip, The Book of Constellations is a story about Rael, who claims to be the sole survivor of an alien race, as told by Simon, the man who went with him. On a quest to save humanity from the same malevolent force that destroyed his own people, Rael believes this “Darkness” resides in the Governor of the state. Rael makes his way west to the Capitol armed with nothing but his uncanny perception and empathy. He gathers allies along the way from the forgotten and lost of America. Rael’s obsession won’t allow him to mourn another world, but how far is he willing to go to save us? The protagonist of my story, Rael, might be an alien. But he might be something more. As the story unfolds it becomes clear that Rael seems to know all of our secrets, and is gradually becoming more and more connected to our world. The question becomes what will he do with that information?

What is my podcast playlist about?

These are all audio dramas / fiction podcasts which have A.I. as a central theme or character. Some have an AI as the protagonist, others have A.I. as a central theme or character. All find different ways to answer the question of how AI fits into our world through different genres, stories, and styles.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The Program audio series

Why this podcast?

The Program audio series is a fiction podcast set in a future in which Money, State, and God became fused into a single entity called the Program. Each episode is a self-contained story focusing on ordinary people inhabiting this extraordinary world. And for them, it is not this future that is terrifying - it is our present. This is a particularly thoughtful examination of what might happen if an A.I. became central to human society's existence, told in a retrospective way from the people living within in.

2. Human B Gon

Why this podcast?

Welcome to the future! The machines have taken over, and now live a suburban life in Droidston, Nanotoba. But there’s still the problem of human infestation! In reality show style, follow a crew of emotionally unstable robots as they capture stray humans and ethically relocate them to Garbage Island. A spot-on parody of reality programs, the sentient robots in Human-B-Gon are very human in their frailties and anxieties. This show is not only funny, but suggests that artificial intelligences might have a rough time dealing with suddenly being sentient, and might not end up so different than us.

3. Rogue Life

Why this podcast?

Benny Bowers is a man stuck in an ever-changing time loop: jumping from Film Noir to Paranormal Investigator Reality Show to Viking Drama and everything in between. Join us as he unravels the mystery of what is really happening and how he can finally escape. It becomes clear early on that the various genres Benny is leaping through are created by an AI of some sort, creating worlds that are sort of, but not quite, like what they're supposed to be, reflecting AIs current inability to truly understand meaning and art.
