The best podcasts for early-stage startup founders

Who am I?

I've been working on startup teams since for the last 6 years and am fascinated by what makes great teams work well. Outside of writing and hosting a startup-focused podcast for work, I love running, cycling and cooking with my family. I've travelled the globe since age 15 — relocated from the US to Eastern Europe and back several times. Along the way, I've worked in fabulous restaurant kitchens, crypto-boom startups and did a stint of dairy farming in New Zealand. I'm always curious about teams that work well together in all settings and the art of building thriving communities. I've been writing and interviewing folks in the product and startup space for the last 7 years. Creating marketing materials across all formats, launching on Product Hunt, hosting roundtables, curating newsletters, you name it. I also have a strong interest in growing engaging IRL communities through my local network of runners and cyclists.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

For the last 3 years, I've hosted Ship it and Sip it where we uncover stories behind new products. I talk with both founders and builders — designers, marketers, engineers and more. I think there is much more to startup success than a charasmatic founder. Oh, I love their stories and perspectives too — but I also believe 'those in the trenches' have great stories to tell.

What is my podcast playlist about?

This playlist is all about what works in early-stage startups in 2023. The age of quickly getting funded with an idea is long gone — it's easier than ever to build a product quickly. And the power of building community is stronger than ever. This playlist covers how and why to build MVPs quickly and also build a strong presence so that founders can reach their target audience and beat the competition.

Well done, let's grab a drink and break down what got you here and where you're going next. This is our goal for Ship it and Sip it. If you’re at an early stage startup, you're in the right place. A lot of stuff out there focuses on the WHAT (tactics) and is not tailored to your critical early stage so you're not sure what to do. If you do try some things, you're not sure WHY you're doing them. Welcome to Season 4 where I'll be asking WHY to help bring more clarity to the messy world of early stage startup marketing.
