The best podcasts for binging in an entire weekend!

Who am I?

First time podcast writer, focussing on audio drama and comedy writing :) Based in the UK, I'm one of the creators of 'Dear Bastard!', streaming now on GoodPods. I like to hear made up stories from your heads, add some drama and humour and I'm hooked! So many of you have funny stories to tell, so create a world and add them to it! I also love single-voice narrated stories: not true crime, but true to life. History I didn't know. Politics I've never thought about. A story written well. I like to be drawn into an entire world or story - engrossed. I particularly love podcasts where you get sucked in, either by the narration, the shenanigans or the characters. The podcasts in my list have done that - I take them on a walk, or spend the weekend with them. The stories are laugh out loud, or pin-drop listen. I love to be transported to somewhere new.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My podcast is pure sitcom: 'Dear Bastard!' is a radio play released in sitcom podcast, set in a house somewhere that's been divided into flats. So, we've created a world for you to fall into. All seems well from the outside – but within, the six residents are trapped in a never-ending group email thread that brings out the worst in everyone. As they try unsuccessfully to navigate their differences, minor problems like overfull bins and malfunctioning doorbells begin to escalate into passive-aggressive rows about invasive species in the garden, allegations of money-laundering and fraud, and shady remarks designed to make you laugh your head off.

What is my podcast playlist about?

This playlist is about well-written stories. You'll fall into the worlds that have been made. You'll recognize the characters - and traits of yourself. You won't be able to put these podcasts down - you'll gobble them up in one listen! Go for a long walk and bring these podcasts with you - they won't let you down.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Dear Bastard!

Why this podcast?

Obviously, we have to pick ourselves! Full of sniping, bickering and absurdity courtesy of characters you’ll feel like you’ve known all your life, this is a podcast for everyone who’s ever had a neighbour – and made the mistake of giving them an email address.

2. Bunga Bunga

Why this podcast?

This was a podcast I discovered on my lockdown walks - and finished it in two daily exercise breaks. The narration is spot on, a Wikipedia article breathed into life, full of tit bits and jaw-dropping revelations.

Silvio Berlusconi was a charismatic multi-millionaire real-estate mogul who upended the Italian political order and hypnotized an entire nation. He was one of the longest-serving prime ministers of one of the world’s wealthiest countries, until he was brought down by three powerful women - and two words: “Bunga Bunga.” From Wondery, the makers of Dirty John and The Shrink Next Door, and hosted by comedian Whitney Cummings, “Bunga Bunga” is an eight part series on the incredible true story of the rise and fall of Silvio Berlusconi, told with Whitney’s signature wit and style.

3. Dear Joan and Jericha (Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine)

Why this podcast?

The only show I think that's funnier than ours. You'll cringe with delight at the stories on this show and find yourself quoting them for months on end. You'll never look at an agony aunt in the same way again.

Why this podcast?

Another all-engrossing podcast, one of the Times Scotland's must-listens. Matt Heron has created a story so fascinating, you won't be able to help yourself from listening to episode after episode. Pardon the pun, it's a real knockout!
