Burnout & Resilience - Part 1 of a Joint Series, with Developmental Neuroscientist Dr Denise Bossarte
07/11/21 • 37 min
Hi listeners, this is part 1 of a joint series which myself and Dr Denise Bossarte will be recording for trauma survivors. We will be covering a range of topics which highlight areas of our lives with which we both struggled as a consequence of the trauma that we endured. Topics will include; burnout & resilience, gaining self awareness, difficulty with relationships, overcoming shame, becoming comfortable with sharing your story.....and much more.
Part 1: Burnout & Resilience
Do you feel overwhelmed with work and personal commitments? Burnout is common amongst trauma survivors and is the state of mind which arises from long-term, unresolved stress.
Do you struggle to adapt and bounce back when things don't go as planned? If you lack resilience, you might dwell on problems, feel victimized, become overwhelmed or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse.
Resilient people harness inner strength that helps them rebound from a setback or challenge. They don't wallow or dwell on failures; they acknowledge the situation, learn from their mistakes, and then move forward.
In this podcast episode, we will discuss our own experiences and ways in which you can avoid burnout and on how to improve resilience.
Dr Denise Bossarte is a poet and an award-winning writer, photographer, and artist. Denise is a certified meditation facilitator and contemplative arts teacher and holds a PhD in developmental neuroscience. And she is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Author of 'Finding Strength Through Tragedy’ Ashley Michelle was witness to a murder and told that she was next! Thankfully she escaped though has suffered from PTSD ever since
In todays podcast episode, author of ‘Finding Strength through tragedy’ Ashley Michelle shares her experiences after a series of tragic events, which could have killed and which she used to gain inner wisdom and strength to be able to help and inspire others..
Ashley was sexually assaulted and a witness to a murder where her ex-boyfriend had just killed someone whom she knew, he locked the door behind her and told her that she was next. Thankfully she escaped, but, from that moment, her life has been filled with Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety.
Instead of allowing this to take over her life, she chose to talk about what had happened, but more importantly, about her healing process so that it can help others to change their lives after going through their own tough times.
Ashley would like somebody to look at her and say, because of you, I didn't give up!
