Randy, who retired from the US Navy after 23 years of service. His weight has fluctuated since then. His youngest daughter made the decision to enlist in the Navy. She requested that he attend her graduation wearing his uniform. He hadn't worn the uniform since he retired, so he thought it was time to get back in shape. He would lose 20 pounds, and both of them would look fantastic in their uniforms.
He needed a new challenge because Sara had completed boot camp. Randy saw some friends compete in a marathon while he was deployed in Iraq in 2007. Then he decided to run one of his own; sixteen years later, still no marathon. He told Sara that he wanted to finally run one at the age of 47. She thought doing it as a family would be a great idea.
When they pitched the idea to their family, everyone loved it. All of the family members have begun training in an effort to reach this goal, despite being spread out from Chicago to California. As we start running and set goals, we'll share our journey. Stay tuned as we all start “That First Mile”.
