The basic facts of Holmes are well-known to nearly every literate person on the globe. He was the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and made appearances in fifty-six short stories and four novels. He solved cases from 221B Baker Street in London with the assistance of his faithful companion, Dr. Watson. Holmes became so popular that Doyle couldn’t get away with killing him.
Holmes is one of the few true timeless characters in literature. His canonical adventures may have been set in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but in the hands of a competent author, with a few modifications, Holmes could show up at a medieval castle or on a starship and still be a powerful character.
Every detective story that enjoyed any success in the past century, even if written as the antithesis of Holmes (such as Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade), owes something of its success to Doyle’s great detective for getting the public interested in the genre. Edgar Allan Poe’s C. Auguste Dupin may have been the first true detective in literature and an inspiration for Holmes, but even Dupin owes something to Holmes, as few people outside the academic world would care that Dupin existed without the wild success of Holmes.
Holmes has been recreated too many times to count, and each actor brings his own spin. The radio recreations of Holmes began October 20, 1930 when William Gillette, perhaps the great popularizer of Holmes, took the role to a new medium. It has continued off and on since them on a variety of networks including, NBC (1930-33) (1934-36) (1955), Blue Network (1939-42), Mutual Network (1943-46), (1947-49), ABC (1946-47) (1949-50) (1956), BBC (1954, and many more years.), BBC-WFMT Chicago (1959-69).
Host Adam Graham is your guide through every circulating old time radio Sherlock Holmes episode including programs starring Basil Rathbone, Orson Welles, Tom Conway, John Stanley, and Sir John Gielgud.

With the smash success of Dragnet, many networks and producers began to play follow the leader. On NBC, Dragnet was followed up with Tales of the Texas Rangers which dramatized real-life tales from the Texas Rangers. CBS countered with The Line Up and later 21st Precinct, and then Nightwatch which while following an actual policeman in the field was as realistic as it got in a show that was pre-cursor to modern police reality dramas like Cops.
The Line Up was a hard-boiled drama of police action. Like Dragnet, it realistically showed police doing their jobs. Unlike Dragnet, it was not based on “cases taken from police files.” Rather The Line Up made its fictional cases seem realistic, from kidnappings and murders to thefts and obscene phone calls. The Line Up radio show was not set in any particular city. However, when the series moved to television, it was set in San Francisco.
The series starred William Johnston as Lieutenant Ben Guthrie and began with Wally Maher playing the role of Sergeant Matt Grebb. After Maher's passing in 1951, Jack Moyles took over the supporting role as Sergeant Pete Karger.
The Line Up, as the title indicates, centered around the police line up. The show always began with one. The Sergeant in charge of line would say, “May I have your attention please? You people on the other side of the wire in the audience room, may I have your attention please.” He would then give his name and say, “I’ll explain the line up to you. Each of the suspects you will see will be numbered. I’ll call out their number, their name, and charge. If you have any questions or identifications, please remember the number assigned to the prisoner as I call his name. At the end of each line when I ask for questions or identifications, call out the number. If you’re sure or not too sure of the suspect, have him held. The officers who took your name will assist you, they’re seated among you. Please be prompt with your questions or identifications. When the prisoners leave here, they are sent to the washroom and dressed back into their jail clothes. It makes it quite difficult to bring them back after they leave here. The questions I ask these suspects are merely to get a natural tone of voice so do not pay too much attention to their answers as they often lie. Bring on the line.
”While the line up was rarely the key to solving the case, it did give the show a rhythm and it also allowed for humor in the interrogation of the suspects by the sergeant. The series began as a Summer Replacement for The FBI in Peace and War in 1950, but quickly got its own time slot and would remain on radio until the Spring of 1953 before becoming TV only.

Before there was James Bond, I Spy, or Danger Man, there was The Man Called X.
The Man Called X began during the latter part of World War II as the founding of the O.S.S. sparked public interest in espionage, spies, and secret missions. The series outlasted the war and starred Herbert Marshall as the Man Called X (aka Ken Thurston) traveling the world to troubleshoot threats to peace, the security of the U.S., and the world into the 1950s.
In his journeys, Thurston was joined by a criminal and conman Pegon Zellschmidt (Hans Conreid and then Leon Belasco) who would assist Thurston but also often would sell him out to the bad guys before eventually helping him in the end.
The series began as a summer replacement in 1944 over CBS and was picked up for 26 26-week run over the Blue Network (which later became ABC) in the fall of 1944. It was then brought back for summer runs over NBC in 1945 and 46, before landing back at CBS for a seventy-eight week run from 1947-48. After two years off the air, the series returned to NBC for its final two seasons where it aired along with the similar Dangerous Assignment. The concept was revived as a syndicated TV show starring Barry Sullivan in 1956.
Your host Adam Graham is your guide through all circulating episodes. This series originally aired as part of The Great Detectives of Old TIme Radio from 2020-2023

Perry Mason is a fictional defense attorney who originally appeared in detective fiction by Erle Stanley Gardner. This long running radio drama had several actors who played the famous lawyer starting with Bartlett Robinson and then followed by Santos Ortega, Donald Briggs, and finally John Larkin who played the famous attorney after 1947. The radio portrayal of Perry Mason is a far more involved lawyer then the one who became famous on TV, the radio version would rather swap gunshots with evildoers than sit in a boring courtroom, waiting for the deliberation! The show was only 10 minutes and was more intense and favored action than courtroom drama. Perry Mason ran 12 seasons and moved to TV in the late 1950's with the now famous portrayal by Raymond Burr. Each show follows a continues story line similar to soap operas. Join us as we join Perry Mason in crime mysteries and court room drama.

The Rich Dickman Show – Our Story (So Far) Once upon a time, two friends named Rem and Huell hit the record button and launched a humble podcast with an anything-goes attitude. In those early days (circa 2018), they riffed on everything from why sharing feelings might be overrated to the wonders of recreational weed and the weird world of Twitch streaming. They even joked about making Rem’s mom a Patreon reward (yes, really) – setting the tone for a show that would blend irreverent humor with real-life absurdities. It was clear from Episode 1 that The Rich Dickman Show wasn’t your average talk show; it was a wild ride through the bizarre corners of everyday life, guided by two sharp-witted hosts finding their groove. Change came quickly (and hilariously) for our intrepid podcasters. The original co-hosts were Rem and Huell, but after 52 episodes, Huell decided to embark on an “epic” life journey – reportedly leaving the show to “tour the mountains in the Middle East with ISIS”. (Yes, you read that right – that’s the official story, and the guys still chuckle about it!). Rem, now a solo captain, wasn’t about to let the ship sink. He brought in Ray, a friend with a laid-back vibe and a knack for podcast banter. Ray fit right in... at least until the next plot twist. The show started to feature actual porn stars. Ray was “forced to quit” the show due to a contractual obligation. This era of upheaval became legend among fans – a reminder that in the world of Rich Dickman, truth is often stranger (and funnier) than fiction. Through all these twists, one man remained Rem’s constant companion: Randy. Described as a “loyal member of the show since the beginning, having been saved by Rem in the past”, Randy started as that behind-the-scenes buddy who gradually slid into the spotlight. (There’s an inside joke that Rem once “saved” Randy – don’t ask from what; the answers range from a burning building to saving him from dating a vegan). What matters is that Randy’s been the heart of the show, always there to chime in with a hearty laugh or an outrageous anecdote. Of course, being Rem’s loyal sidekick also means enduring Rem’s sharp tongue – it’s a running gag that Rem has never encountered a Randy idea he couldn’t lovingly snark apart. Longtime listeners live for these moments: Rem quips, Randy groans, and the friendship underneath it all only grows stronger (in a tough love kind of way). After Ray’s dramatic exit, the show pressed on with Rem and Randy steering the ship. By episode 175, they were ready for fresh energy – and along came Cody. Originally seeking “a new source of entertainment” in his life, Cody found it at the Rich Dickman virtual table and quickly became an integral part of the crew. With Cody’s arrival, the podcast evolved into its modern form: a trio (sometimes quartet) of friends with an almost absurd chemistry. Cody brought his own flair – a mix of deadpan delivery and unpredictable humor – and soon discovered that no one is safe from shenanigans on this show (not even the new guy!). If there’s a ridiculous script or ad to be read, guess who gets volunteered? That’s right – Cody’s your man, and he’s learned to lean into the joke every time. As the cast settled into Rem, Randy, and Cody, the content of the show hit its stride. The Rich Dickman Show transformed into a variety show of hilarity, introducing segment after segment of pure comedic gold. A typical episode can feel like an eclectic carnival: one minute you’re getting genuine life advice, and the next you’re hearing an absurd hypothetical about launching babies from cannons. The boys even started formally naming their recurring bits, much to the delight of the “Dickman faithful.” Here are just a few of the fan-favorite segments that have become hallmarks of the show’s evolution: “Thinking With Your Dickman” – Ever wish you had a panel of unfiltered friends to consult on life’s bizarre questions? This segment is exactly that. The hosts dive into listener questions and dilemmas, dishing out advice with a hearty dose of sarcasm and heart. The wisdom flows freely as the guys tackle everything from techy troubles to fashion fails. One week they might seriously debate the ethics of an AI butler with an attitude problem, and the next they’re helping a listener decide whether it’s okay to wear comfy Prada shoes with a Gucci handbag. It’s equal parts thought-provoking and side-splitting, often ending with Rem bewildered at how these discussions veer off-road. (Global egg prices vs. handbag fashion – why not both?) “Cody Reads Copy” – When Cody joined, Rem and Randy quickly discovered his secret talent: reading advertisements in a voice so earnest you’d think he was auditioning for primetime. Naturally, they decided to have some fun with it. In this bit, poor Cody gets tricked or dared into reading outrageous ad copy on air – usually without any prior warning. Whether it’s a fake promo for Randy’s questionable Airbnb or a scathing mock review of
