Mommying While Muslim is a one of a kind podcast where American Muslim moms share their experiences to raise second generation kids. Having experienced both pre and post 9/11 America, they're acutely aware of the unique challenges their families face on top of the regular messes that all moms share. Mommying While Muslim is a space to take back their stories, and tell those no one will air on the news or portray fully or fairly in the media. Host Uzma Jafri is mom first, careerwoman second, and global citizen at heart. She meets taboo topics head on because she wasn't allowed to do it growing up, not at home or at school and work. Her aim is to better her immediate household, community, and her momsisterhood the world over by telling the truths sometimes people don't want to face or to hear. Not everyone has these privileges, and she is eager to learn as well as share her own experiences. Always looking to give back, MWM finds women and families who need a mic because no one needs a voice; they just need an opportunity to speak. Besides tough social issues, MWM tackles political ones because when laws affect kids, we're coming for them as well as the ones who make them! There's no lane that doesn't get taken here. Along the way, MWM recruits momallies for Muslim Americans who have been inordinately targeted for the last 20 years. True moms know that ALL our children deserve to be safe, loved, and happy, and we bust every yellow brick on the Islamaphobic road to make sure they all are. If you like good trouble, this one's for you!

“A Muslim & A Jew Go There” is a brand new podcast produced by Instinct Productions, hosted by comedian David Baddiel (author of “Jews Don’t Count”) and politician Sayeeda Warsi (“Muslims Don’t Matter”) who will take on whatever controversy hits the headlines each week, providing context and discussion around current political and cultural events involving and affecting British Muslims and Jews.

Covering topics from antisemitism in the Labour party and Islamophobia in the Conservative Party to debating concepts like “racism hierarchies”, “non-visible minorities” and “victim olympics”, as well as tropes and stereotypes, and the Middle East and its impact on Jewish and Muslim communities in Britain, this topical, often funny podcast will go there in a way others might not dare.

Why do Muslim women wear the hijab? How do they reconcile different approaches to veiling between generations, across different geographical regions and in different cultural and social environments? How do they negotiate diverse social and cultural influences, pressures and expectations, legal constraints, practical challenges and fashion trends? In this collection we explore the extraordinary range of different styles of Muslim dress and the emotions people can invest in them. Track 1 looks at different attitudes towards veiling in the Southern Indian city of Calicut (also known as Kozhikode), and in tracks 2, 3 and 4, Stefanie Sinclair, Open University Lecturer in Religious Studies, talks to the anthropologist Emma Tarlo, of Goldsmiths, University of London, about different attitudes among British Muslims towards veiling, fashion and the commercialisation of the hijab. This material forms part of the Open University course A332 Why is religion controversial?

This podcast series is based on the book Arba‘īnīyyāt written by Sayyid Aḥmad Zanjānī (d. 1973). The book belongs to the genre of “forty-ḥadīth” literature and is on the topic of spiritual purification. Unlike most forty-ḥadīth works which only compile forty traditions on any given theme, Sayyid Aḥmad instead builds 4 unique chains of forty ḥadīth, where each ḥadīth is a preliminary for the next ḥadīth, using the following tradition as his basis: Imam Baqir (a) says: Allah (swt) sent revelation to Adam (a) saying: I have collected all goodness in four words; one of them is for me, one of them is for you, one of them is for between you and I, and one of them is for between you and the rest of humanity. 1) As for that which is for me it is that you worship me and do not associate any partners with me. 2) That which is for you is the recompense for your deeds with a reward that you most need. 3) That which is between you and I is that you supplicate, and I accept and answer your supplications. 4) That which is between you and people is that you must like for others that which you like for yourself and dislike for others what you dislike for yourself. For each of these “four words” or four dimensions of human relationship with Allah (swt) and rest of humanity, Sayyid Aḥmad brings forty unique aḥādīth from the Prophet (p) and his Ahl al-Bayt (a) to expand and elaborate on each of these dimensions. The result is a series of 160 traditions, whereby a person who has gone through this series will have a better understanding of what it means to be sincere towards Allah (swt), the nature of Allah’s (swt) rewards for the believers, the nature of supplication and its fulfilment, and our ethical responsibilities when dealing with others. Syed Ali Imran will be summarizing these discussions of Sayyid Aḥmad Zanjānī in this podcast series, taking the listeners through each ḥadīth one by one.

Salam guys!

Join us on this podcast where we discuss everything -from our everyday issues as Muslim women in the West, to using our deen as a guide to navigate them.

And who better to take as examples than the people before us, such as the prophets, companions and the righteous individuals who came after them?

By redefining who our role models are, we can redirect our focus to seeking the pleasure of Allah and getting to Jannah, as the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”

(Muslim 2699)

May Allah bless this journey, and allow it to be of benefit to us all,

Ameen!

Getting married is tough for the vast majority of Muslims in the West. We know because we’ve been there. My (Zaid) journey spanned nearly nine years. It was filled with rejections and self-doubt. While I (Hiba) didn't know there was a journey to be on in the first place. After we got married we decided to create something different to help single Muslims complete their deen. And so our matchmaking service Halal Match was born.

After a few years of interviewing singles, a friend suggested we journal our stories. We tweaked that idea and turned it into a podcast. In ‘Diary of a Matchmaker’ we’ll take you through this unfamiliar world of matchmaking. We’ll share our stories, experiences, and much more. So say Bismillah and tune in.

The goal of Wives of Jannah is to strengthen Muslim women and their marriages through Islamic based relationship coaching, programs, written work, and resources like this podcast. What guides me in my work are three words: mouda, rahmah, and sakinah- the three words used in the Qur'an to describe marriage in chapter 30: ayah 21 - those translate to love, mercy, and tranquility. Marriage is something you learn while in it which means none of us arrive in our relationships knowing exactly what to do. I hope this podcast can offer you some insight from my relationship coaching experience starting back in 2009. - Megan Wyatt

Religion and faith are important for millions of people worldwide. While ancient traditions can provide important beliefs and values for life, it can be hard to apply them to our lives today. And yet, weaving them into our days can bring benefits––greater meaning in life, more alignment between our beliefs and our actions, and deeper personal connection to our faith and each other.

In Living Our Beliefs, we delve into where and how Jews, Christians, and Muslims express their faith each day––at work, at home, and in public––so that we can see the familiar and unfamiliar in new ways. Learning from other religions and denominations invites us to notice similarities and differences. Comparing beliefs and practices prompts us to be more curious and open to other people, reducing the natural challenge of encountering the Other. Every person’s life and religious practice is unique. Join us on this journey of discovery and reflection.
