Who am I?

Hi, my name is Ryan Pak and I host an interview podcast called Soundtrack Your Life. I hosted season 1 of the podcast by myself, but now I co-host the podcast with my friends, Nicole Barlow and Brandice Wilson. Nicole and I have very similar tastes in music and film while Brandice kind of hates everything. Music and movies are my 2 favorite things, so a soundtrack podcast is a perfect way to be able to talk about both!. I majored in film in college and I've been playing musical instruments when I was a kid. I spent a lot of my teen years hunting down soundtracks to find rare and unreleased songs by my favorite bands. I also became fascinated by the songwriters behind fake songs in movies and TV.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Since we host a soundtrack podcast, I've selected some of my favorite soundtrack / score podcasts for the playlist as well as a couple of my favorite music podcaststhat have soundtrack related episodes.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Soundtrack Your Life is an interview podcast where we interview a guest about a soundtrack that they feel a connection to. We've interviewed other podcasters, writers, musicians, and composers. All of the podcasts on this playlist have covered songs from soundtracks or full soundtracks / scores, and I'm a fan of all of them!

The podcasts I picked and why

1. My Weekly Mixtape: A Playlist Curation Podcast

Why this podcast?

Brian Colburn hosts My Weekly Mixtape and invites a guest for every episode where they take turns making a playlist based on the episode's theme. I guested on the 90's Soundtrack Mixtape episode and Brian has also done episodes on 80s, soundtracks, 2000s soundtracks, and great songs from bad movies! Brian's also been a guest on Soundtrack Your Life, covering the soundtrack to the film, That Thing You Do.

2. Switched on Pop

Why this podcast?

Switched on Pop breaks down why songs are popular from a songwriting / technical standpoint. They have a great episode on why Lin Manuel Miranda's "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto topped the charts and the different songwriting techniques employed in the song. They keep things fun even though they're looking at songs from kind of an academic standpoint.

The podcast inspired by the songs inspired by the motion pictures! Join us as we explore the best and worst songs that originally appear in movies, from beloved classics such as “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Armageddon, to new hits like “All The Stars” from Black Panther — and even obscure head-scratchers like “Addams Family Groove” by MC Hammer from The Addams Family. Each episode, we deep dive into an iconic song from a movie, revisit its film, and discuss its impact. Movie songs are a collision of visual and audio media, resulting in prime moments of pop culture. Whether it’s for artistic merit or shameless promotion, we want to cover them all!

4. The Film Scorer

Why this podcast?

Nicholas Marcus hosts The Film Scorer where he interviews different film and TV composers. Did you know that Patrick Stump from Fallout Boy composes music for a Spiderman cartoon? I didn't know that until I heard Nicholas' episode with Patrick! Nicholas has a guest list that I'm pretty jealous of, to be honest. The interviews are great and Nicholas comes prepared every week.
