Who am I?
Back To The Blockbuster consists of two hosts, Gaius Bolling and Jackson Pye. Gaius is an entertainment journalist and film and TV influencer on Instagram, with over 112K followers, currently writing for CBR (Comic Book Resources), Movieweb, That Hashtag Show, and Geek Vibes Nation. Jackson is from Canada and joins our show remotely. He's a big fan but a more casual moviegoer who comes to our topics from a less professional angle and is very much the voice of the audience. We also have a bi-weekly spinoff called Back To The Blockbuster Presents: Deep Dive, which is a strictly movie-focused show where Gaius takes on picking a different film to deep dive into that is chosen by our rotating line-up of special guests, usually featuring other podcasts and fellow movie fans. I choose it because this has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I've been a lifelong movie fan and attended Los Angeles Family Academy for its screenwriting and editing program. I eventually pivoted to entertainment journalism and have since made my living writing about what I love: film and TV. I have a vast knowledge of the industry but I don't pretend like I know everything. There is continuously more for me to discover so I never condescend to the audience that is listening to us. I try to make the conversation fun with my fellow co-hosts and, through listening to other shows on this platform, I learn even more from how they're tackling these topics as well.
My Show
What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?
Back To The Blockbuster breaks down the latest in film and TV news but from a very fun perspective. I use my industry knowledge to provide insight into the topics but I keep it light and fun with my co-hosts who attack the topics from a more casual perspective. The duality of how we approach the news is what makes the show fun for listeners. We also do milestone movie anniversaries on the show to mix things up a bit with the news. On the Deep Dive Spinoff, for listeners who are more interested in movie review style shows, we got you covered as we each choose a film bi-weekly to dive into in an informative but fun way. Through both shows, we feel like listeners get the best of both worlds.
What is my podcast playlist about?
I think our playlist shows a nice mix of what our show represents through how differently other shows might tackle similar topics. We're also inspired by a lot of the shows on this playlist and think they're some of the best to be doing this on the platform so that's why we think other listeners who listen to us should also give these amazing shows a chance as well.
1. Death By DVD
Why this podcast?
Death By DVD is a great podcast because it focuses on the good and bad of film but in a fun, yet informative way. It's easy to just discuss the movies you love but I appreciate a podcast that also dives into the not-so-good of cinema and that's something that host Harry Scott Sullivan and horror artist Alexander Nash does effortlessly. The angle of the pod is more towards cult, horror, slashers, drive-in, and other films with a niche audience but if you fall into this category, this is the one to give a listen to. There's a reason you have seen them topping the film reviews chart for a bit now.

Death By DVD: When watching is never enough. We here at Death By DVD sit painfully through hours and hours of movies so you, the public, can make an informed decision of what you put in your ear holes and eye holes. Some of these films are good, some bad, and some even unmentionable; but ALL have one thing in common : Watching all of these movies will one day melt our brains into a sloppy wet mush. No need to thank us, we were already methodically destroying ourselves with cinema. At least this way there is a permanent record of our demise. As the midnight hour approaches, the smoke sets heavy, and the booze begins to flow like blood; tune in and drop through hell with your host Harry Scott Sullivan featuring horror artist I.Alexander Nash as we take you on a journey through the worlds of horror, gore, cult, strange, slashers, psychotronic, trash, twisted, gornography, weird, drive-in, cheesy, lost, rare, and frightening films. Join us and listen as lives collapse upon themselves

2. BACK 2 THE BALCONY
Why this podcast?
Back 2 The Balcony is a fun look back at films from the 70's, 80's, and 90s but with a twist. The hosts are actually critiquing the critiques of the titans of film reviewing, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. Guiding the listeners through this are two of the most familiar and consistent voices of the indie podcast space when it comes to film: Antonio Palacios, host of The Cultworthy Cinema Podcast, and Justin Henson, host of the Movie Wire Podcast. These two are well informative without being condescending and they have great chemistry as co-hosts on this show. It's funny, smart, and definitely one of the more unique offerings in the film podcasting space.

3. Suns and Shadows-Cast
Why this podcast?
We can vouch for this show and its hosts because we were lucky to have them on our show for an episode and that's how we came to discover what they had to offer. Hosts Jeff and Kev get into canceled TV shows and cult classic films dealing in horror, sci-fi, and other genre favorites. Their goal is to make you remember films or TV shows that may have been forgotten that deserve your attention. Love a show that shines a light on lesser-known projects and this is a show that certainly does that in a fun way.

4. Barrel Aged Flicks Podcast
Why this podcast?
If you want film education with a tad bit of boozery, look no further than the Barrel Aged Flicks Podcast. The show takes on new movies weekly and the discussions get extra fun because the hosts also review an alcoholic beverage that goes along with the movie they are reviewing. Despite it being a fun show with a twist of alcohol debauchery being added to the mix, they also include informative facts and trivia about the films before giving their final thoughts. Ron, Stew, Chase Ragnar, and Gute are truly engaging hosts who never fail to make me laugh. Some explicit language but if that's your thing, don't hesitate to listen.

5. Spoil My Movie!
Why this podcast?
The Spoil My Movie podcast is a solid example of good host chemistry really selling a show. It probably helps that Chris and Elle are a couple haha but they bring a fun authenticity to their show that makes it worthy of your attention. The duo reviews old and new movies have a fun segment called Pec-offs where they have legendary movie characters square off against each other. Much like our show, the hosts each bring something different to the table. Chris is a writer and dives into films more deeply while Elle brings a more psychological examination to the discussion and looks at the films from a cultural mix as well. The combination makes for a fun show that never fails to entertain.

Chris and Elle are a fun, adorable, weirdo couple who love watching movies and reacting to them. In this podcast they dissect movies both new and old, and even pit legendary characters against each other in their wildly entertaining Pec-Offs. Elle analyzes characters from a deep psychological and cultural lens, while also seasoning episodes with high pitched squeals and fun audio effects. Chris is a writer with absurdly sharp observation skills, uncovering plot discrepancies and shredding weak characters with his wolverine-like claws.
