Who am I?

I like to be engaged in my podcast listening. It’s either books or podcasts that play on my phone. I have usually about 2 to 3 hours of driving in my car day so I need to fill the time. And sometimes when I can’t sleep, I will also listen to a podcast. I have anxiety and need to calm down with listening to the spoken word. I guess I could be an expert because I am a criminal defense attorney and listening to things like true crime interest me.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

My podcast is a Stephen King book club podcast. I also am working on a podcast about my journey as an author.

What is my podcast playlist about?

This is what I like. Nothing more to explain. I am either listening to a book or a podcast. I used to listen to a lot of those, but I got too much for me and I just want to enjoy an escape.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Malice After Midnight: A True Crime Podcast

Why this podcast?

I enjoy listening to true crime sometimes. Sometimes I have to take a break because I get annoyed at the system as a defense attorney. But overall I love this podcast and the hosts are really funny.

We are 3 people that enjoy watching and reading about true crime. We have no background in criminal justice or psychology whatsoever. Steve is a phone man. Tina is a teacher. Christine works in a hospital. We’re just really interested in crime and want to talk about it. We also want you, our listeners, to feel like you’re a part of our conversations. Welcome to Malice After Midnight.

Why this podcast?

I really love this podcast and I hated the way it ended. I’ve been a Richard Simmons fan since I was a kid.

On February 15, 2014, fitness guru Richard Simmons disappeared. He stopped teaching his regular exercise class at Slimmons, cut off his closest friends, and removed himself from the public eye after decades as one of the most accessible celebrities in the world. Nobody has heard from him - and no one knows why he left. Filmmaker Dan Taberski was a Slimmons regular and a friend of Richard’s. Missing Richard Simmons is Dan’s search for Richard - and the deeper he digs, the stranger it gets. Listen to the podcast The New York Times calls "a cultural phenomenon."

Headlong is Dan Taberski’s documentary podcast that explores the lives of overlooked people, moments and events in our culture. Season 2 is Surviving Y2K. Season 3 is Running From COPS.

5. Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Why this podcast?

This is a really good historical podcast. It’s really dark though. I loved the parts that talked about the same time as biblical times.

In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.
