The best podcasts for a relatively quick commute

Who am I?

I'm a cinephile by heart and a computer geek by necessity, which is why I host a podcast about movies and not computers! I live in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico where I try to divide myself between my wife and kids, two jobs, watching films, and podcasting. I love listening to podcasts, but I also happen to have a short commute to work. Because of that, I appreciate a podcast that I can listen in one or two trips to and from work. When I started my own podcast, that was one of my main goals; to make something brief as an additional incentive for people to listen. Three years later, I have different types of episodes, but some of them range from 15 to 40 minutes, which is what I was looking for when compiling this list.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

The Movie Loot is a podcast focused on sharing the best "loot" of films with everybody; and when I say "best", I don't necessarily mean the typical award-winning films, but rather the best for anybody. I try to cover a bit of everything; from the critically acclaimed to the ridiculously obscure, from the US and Europe to Asia and Africa, from the wildly popular to the incredibly schlocky. I guarantee that in every episode, you will walk away with *at least* ONE worthy film recommendation from our "loot", if not more.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Podcasts that know how to do their thing quick and dirty, in and out. Breezy but insightful discussions that will interest you, enlighten you, and make you smile. As a frequent podcast listener, I love to listen to long, deep-dive podcasts that really get into the nitty gritty of a certain topic, mostly film related, but I also love these little gems I can listen to on one quick commute; the ones that I might be able to knock two or three episodes on one day. That's what I wanted to share with everybody!

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Stew World Order

Why this podcast?

It's Stew's world; we're just living in it! Stew starts with an interesting twist to make his guests choose what film to talk about, and follows it with a very clean and lean discussion on the pros and cons of each film. He's concise, but most important, a lot of fun to listen to!

Comic Book Movies are great, right? They have dominated the pop culture world and the box office for years now! Every episode, the Stew World Order will review a different CBM chosen at random by that episode's special guest. We'll figure out which ones added to the phenomenon... and which ones are a footnote in its history.

Why this podcast?

I mean, I could talk only about the kick-ass intro, but Em follows it up with an equally kick-ass podcast. Crazy insightful, she really digs into the history and trivia of movies and for little over half an hour, leaves you in awe of everything she shares.

3. The Envelope Please

Why this podcast?

The next entry in this list is... the envelope, please... *opens envelope* The Envelope Please! Yes, this is a podcast focused on Oscar-winning films, specifically Best Picture winners (for now). Samuel & Rance have an insanely good chemistry and just like a good acceptance speech, they're quick and witty and out of the stage. Definitely an envelope worth opening!
