The best podcasts about Pop Culture From Unique Perspectives

Who am I?

I am a pastor from Kansas, which makes me a weird candidate for a podcast about pop culture. I grew up in the 80's with a single mom and I was raised on stories. Growing spiritually made me see the stories woven through all of us. Our stories often go deeper than we know. Even popular tropes that run through much of pop culture often tell us more about ourselves than we realize. Anyone can recap or review a show, but where do we go when we want a deeper or different perspective? Start with these 5 pods...

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

We share similar stories with different kinds of brokenness. Often we focus on what makes us different. At Pop Culture Pastor, we choose to focus on what we have in common. For instance, we all love stories...often the same kinds of stories over and over. Its through this truth that we attempt to build community instead of divide. We cant wait to geek out with everyone about the stories we love.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Pop Culture podcasts are plentiful. There are many out there. So the trick is finding one from a host(s) who have an interesting perspective to you.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Pop Culture Pastor

Why this podcast?

It's my pod! My friend Cody and I are pastors, which often leads us to look deeper into the stories we love. We like to look at the deeper meanings behind the stories and discover more truths about humanity within the geeky things we already love.

3. Save the Last Pod

Why this podcast?

I dig this newer pod...not just because they focus on one of my favorite genres, the teenage movie, but also because its nice to hear perspective of indie people in the industry who aren't first focusing on not offending anyone. Just tell me about movie making with your expertise and tell me if John Hughes got a little weird sometimes.

5. Yearview Mirror with Ken and Cliff

Why this podcast?

I really dig history almost as much as I dig pop culture. So why not get the best of both worlds? Ken and Cliff are high school history teachers who discuss and debate pop culture by year.

We're a couple of high school history teachers who discuss and debate each other's thoughts and ideas about U.S. history and popular culture.
