So Long, Too Long is a hilarious true-to-life recounting of The Albany, a Liverpool-based band who for a brief period in the mid-noughties looked like they were in very real danger of hitting the big time, despite their best efforts to sabotage any glimmer of success...
Liverpool's musical history is absolutely littered with 'could have beens' - artists that by all rights, and in a just universe, should have gone global, but for whatever reason, never quite made it over the line. For every Beatles or Lightning Seeds, there are countless bands who, despite doing everything right, just lacked that last bit of good fortune.
The Albany's story - our story - is the mirror image of this. Shambolic, reckless and largely talentless, the gods of music gave us chance after chance at hitting the 'Big Time', seeing us somehow ending up on national radio, touring the country and chased by festival promoters, yet we always found new ways to mess it up - and never gave a toss.
More 'never should beens' than 'could have beens', this a true-to-life recounting of those glorious, carefree days, narrated by singer/songwriter Matty Loughlin-Day and featuring input and discussion from original band members (Liam 'Rowie' Rowlands, Ste 'Frank Button' Buckley & Tom Powell) plus a whole host of reprobates who joined us along the way.
Regrets? We've a few. But from the safety of nearly two decades, it's safe to say we wouldn't change a thing. And anyway, it was so long ago. Too long.
So Long, Too Long.

I am Michelle Walters, creator of “Talk on to Walk on”. In 2020, I stepped back from 30 years in the corporate world. I now know I had burn out. The global lockdown timing was fortuitous giving me permission to pause for longer than I thought I needed.
And so began my healing process - a story I have still yet to fully share but, “Talk on to Walk on” was born and you hear glimpses of my story during my shared conversations throughout the podcast episodes.
Be it by circumstance, habit or fear of judgment, we are all guilty of keeping true feelings and desires buried. As a result we then limit ourselves in the life we want to lead.
“Talk on to Walk on” which has evolved into a coaching, mentoring and talks offer, is my way of addressing this.
My husband, Patrick, an accomplished corporate leader, business and life mentor now joins me and you on our joint, life journeys.
We met and changed our careers while navigating midlife. We are passionate about sharing our ongoing mindset lessons as well as inspirational life stories from guests who, through simple conversations and positive self talk, found the courage to ‘walk on’ to where they are today.
We believe with the right mindset and courage to open up to the right people, there is no limit to what can be achieved, at any stage of life and this is our offer to you.
Please do subscribe, rate and review. You are helping us to share our mindset messages, supporting our community and encouraging more people to share how they really feel and to take the steps towards their dreams.
“Talk on to Walk on” supports Liverpool community causes and charities both financially and through our voluntary talks and flexible payment coaching offer. If you like what you hear and wish to take the smallest steps to create the life you really want, whatever your age, then please do connect with us.
Press play now and let’s “Talk on to Walk on” together, and see where it leads...

Since the NHS was set up in 1948 thousands of women and men from Ireland have come to train and nurse in the UK.
Recruitment drives throughout the 1950s and 60s saw NHS staff travel around Ireland to interview and sign up mainly Irish teenage girls for nurse training. Irish Nurses in the NHS shares the experiences and lives of nurses who travelled from Ireland and helped build the health service over these decades and beyond.
In this series you'll hear from dozens of these nurses about their motivations to leave home, how they adapted to their new lives in Britain and what their training entailed, including many funny memories as well as some sad ones.
It will look at questions like what was it like to leave Ireland at 18 and arrive in a new and unfamiliar country? How were they welcomed and what was life like in Britain? This podcast series aims to answer these questions and brings to life the untold stories of Irish nurses in the NHS.
This podcast has come about as part of exciting collaboration with the London Irish Centre. It is based on research conducted by Professor Louise Ryan of London Metropolitan University and hosted by radio producer and retired nurse, Grainne McPolin.
Thanks to London Irish Centre; Irish Government department of Foreign Affairs; Irish Abroad Unit and Burdett Trust for Nursing, Liverpool University’s Institute of Irish Studies and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation for their continued support.
